Woah, look what they went and did to Kellogg's Diner in Williamsburg! What was once a down-at-heel, 24/7 greasy spoon to which all hungry, blotto hipsters inevitably succumbed has been transformed into a 24/7 upscale diner you might actually consider eating at sober. Unless you're one of the disgruntled locals who has lived in the neighborhood for years and can't stand the slick facelift. But the food at the old Kellogg's was pretty gross, even by greasy spoon standards, and after over three decades in business, it was definitely in need of some repairs—as anyone stabbed by one of the loose springs in their dilapidated booths can attest.
It's been closed since last spring for the makeover, and is now in "soft-open" mode, according to an account by Daniel Maurer at Grub Street. He went gonzo and sneaked in last night while a video was being shot there, and reports some striking changes. For starters, the bodega by the entrance has been replaced by a lobster tank. Second, there is now a 12-seat bar in the middle of the room, where Apotheke's "mixologist" Orson Salicetti will be making those trendy artisanal cocktails everyone's drinking. Furthermore, the new Mediterranean-influenced menu features such delicacies as lamb shank.
Lobster, lamb and mixology at Kellogg's? What's next, a fancy brunch menu? Actually, Maurer says that's on the way, too.

Good move. In a recession everyone goes for the diners that have the best lobster and mixed drinks.
jesus.
h.
christ.
You forget to mention that this place has already been shutdown by the health department since it reopened.
whaaaa? mixology at Kelloggs? last time i was there, the only mixology i got was a gang banger threatening me with a knife to get in the ladies in front of me. i guess lamb shank is better than those turkey burger deluxes....fucking TIMES are a CHANGING.
holy shit. There were always a few things you figured wouldn't change about a neighborhood regardless of how upscale it went and Kellogs was one of them. I can't imagine what the crew found when it tried to scrape X years of nasty grease off the kitchen and dining area floor.
Knowing how they do things around that place they probably just laid a carpet over it and hope it won't eventually rot out the foundation.
what the hell happened to kellog's?!!?
Last time I was in there some kid got stabbed by the bathroom - by another punk, not the shabby upholstery.
I asked for extra ketchup for my fries.
Aw, man. I loved those nasty turkey burgers.
Get over yourselves, this is not a third world (or second world) country, people have the means and the intention to improve things.
Upscale is over. Didn't these douches get the memo?
Are they gonna let me in again, ever?

live on powers and this place ALWAYS sucked going back 20 yrs before the FIRE, except under many hours of drinking and then MAYBE a burger deluxe ( you can't f..up a Bdeluxe right?)...?
I haven't been into the new Kellogg's yet, but I'm sure it's not really upscale. People aren't going to be torn between DuMont and Kellogg's, I'm saying. It's still just a diner. As for this "mixologist," I'll believe it when I see it. And then I will punch said mixologist in the face, and tell him to get the f*** over it, you're a bartender.
that place was so gross. so now it's both gross AND expensive??
hey, Kellog's has been non-stop since they "soft-opened" last Thursday, and there is no way there were closed by any one.
They were so damn busy, they had to close for a couple of hours to re-group. So for those other neighboring restaurants that are paying you to give them a bad rap, you're wasting your time.
Everyone is happy they are back! Mixologist, bartender, what's the difference. Drink up!! They have great beer selections!
