McCain Supporters Outside the NY Times Building

2008_10_mccainral.jpg
Photograph by AminTorres

A bit of red in a blue city: Amin Torres took this photograph last night outside the NY Times Building--McCain-Palin supporters against the elitist liberal media in not real America! While they seem to be less prevalent than Obama supporters, McCain supporters do exist in NYC (we're guessing there are lots on Staten Island!)--some have been profiled recently and at least one has been a victim of this heated election.

Godwin's Law is correct once again: "As a thread grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."

  • rasputinsghost

That he 'has made peace' with his captors in Vietnam is completely unrelated to his ability to use a racial slur like that in public discourse, especially when he seeks to represent a multi-ethnic, multi-racial nation.

It wouldn't be acceptable if he'd been captured by Somalis instead of Vietnamese and said that he hates niggers on national television, and it shouldn't be acceptable here, either.

What's crazier than the look on that Jesus-freak lady, is that they continue to protest, denounce and demonize the NY Times yet when the Times writes anything they agree with they grab on to it like it's the bible.

Like I told my right-wing-nut friends, your life will be much happier with respect to the media if you do one of two things, 1) move to Alaska without a TV, or 2) learn to take a discriminating approach to the overall picture the media gives you and trust it.

  • Guest

That looks like a crazy, emaciated Dolly Parton.

  • Clarice City

All four of them showed up.

  • Amanda Harletsch

the idiots rally so easily & hapilly in the republican side!

  • mdow

"according to the New York Times, and they are hardly ever wrong..." - Sarah Palin, October 4, 2008

I don't think this is a picture of protesters, I think it is a picture of supporters, because why would they protest a paper that Palin obviously supports?

    wink wink, oink oink.

  • Anna_Merkin

For those who still support McCain, I'm genuinely curious to know why you think he's the better candidate, all things considered? Are you voting for the person who presented himself to the public in 2000, are you basing it on the proposals and demeanor presented in this campaign, or is there some other reason? I've seen at least 3-4 different versions of McCain post-primary season. Can you offer me a reasoned analysis of why your candidate is preferred - without referencing Barack Obama?

Did it occur to anyone that you can declare stuff as a business loss? That is a taxable deduction! Unless you're just impatient (in which case you should get taxed), you'll take as much as possible of the revenues you've generated, and reinvest much of it into the business, and work on generating even more. Sheesh, it's amazing how ignorant people are about the simplest things. Why do you think a lot of companies choose to stay private? So they don't have shareholders that bitch at them when their profits are non-existent.

  • ides_of_march

"I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live."

If somebody tortured you for 5 years and broke most of your bones over and over, I'm sure you might also have a few unflattering names to call the people who did it to you.

I do believe McCain has since visited Vietnam and made his peace with them.

  • fakenewyorker

yes that's right, they fought the nazis so their descendant could be a little attention whore on a blog.

take your flag-waving self-righteousness and shove it up your ass bernie.

  • berniegoetz

I think Ide's ancestors would be pleased. They fought against systematic genocide to the tune of 6,000,000 deaths. Nowadays anyone even vaguely right of center is a "nazi." So go fuck yourself 2x.

  • SP

"I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live."

    John McCain, March 2000

  • fakenewyorker

your ancestors would be very disappointed with you ides.

  • ides_of_march

Did it occur to anybody that there are plenty of Asian small business owners and successful career people who don't particularly want to get slammed by obama's tax hikes so he can take their hard earned $$$ and distribute it amongst lazy welfare queens in exchange for votes?

They didn't bust their asses to get an education and a good job, or work all hours of the day at their fruit and vegetable store just so some smooth talking chicago marxist could consficate it.

  • ides_of_march

"Ides of March and his cohorts are like the Blogosphere equivalent of Hitler's Volksturm"

I've had ancestors who fought and died defeating Hitler so go fuck yourself with your tedious, juvenile nazi name-calling.

  • NYC Republican

Given the tiniest opportunity to present the "other side". you find the wackiest photo you possibly could and present it as some sort of representation of how at least 41% percent of American voters plan to vote. No wonder New Yorkers are always so surprised when Republicans win.

    Fail.

  • NannyState

Ides of March and his cohorts are like the Blogosphere equivalent of Hitler's Volksturm, a ragtag army of decaying old men and children armed with wooden rifles and sent out to defend Berlin as the bombs rain down on the Chancellery garden. It's over, so either bite down on your little suicide capsule or choose which invading army to surrender yourself to. I would suggest Obama's: at least you won't have to pray to jesus for health insurance.

  • rasputinsghost

His point was that it was surprising that Asian-Americans would vote for a man who publicly expressed hatred for their race.

  • ides_of_march

#1 "I'm disappointed in Asians who vote for McCain."

I'm disappointed there are mental neanderthals like you who think people are supposed to vote and think a certain way according to their race.

Do you think only white people are free to choose between democrat or republican, conservative or liberal? How high and mighty you must consider yourself to make that decision for all Asians.

  • ides_of_march

Is Gothamist going to post a photo of Muslims for Obama for general mockery purposes? Oh I forgot, only anti-Christian bigotry is considered acceptable to sophisticated urban prima-donnas.

  • ides_of_march

It was an Obama wannabe storm trooper that assaulted the McCain supporter in Manhattan last week, so don't go getting on your high horses about being more civilized. I guess hitting defenseless women over a political disagreement is how the modern Manhattan effete metrosexual shows off his superior intellect these days.

  • matty

I'm a Christian and I voted for Obama fwiw.

Does that blow your minds or what?

Oh and Obama is a Christian too!

  • blablanyc

One side calls the Times the "elitist liberal media." The other side calls it "Big Brother media." I don't believe there is anything liberal about the Times or any American daily. They are all right-of-center and producing for their advertisers. Isn't it apparent when the media only represents two political parties?

  • Art Stewel

This image reminds me of the video of the woman that did that responsive happy dance in the street (dirt path?) in some middle eastern village in the immediate hours after the 9/11 attacks. Sorry if you missed it.

  • Steven

Love it when people are wasting their time and making a fool out of themselves. This is Obama territory here fools!

  • Art Stewel

Even when Obama wins, NY should secede from the US.

  • MFer

So it's all true. McCain's got the ugly and retard vote locked up.

  • nik13

Bastards. Why do they hate my Muji store? Nice stuff, but not up to inventory of what I saw in Osaka & Tokyo.

NYT is only a temporary owner of that piece of real estate, obtained through abuse of eminent domain. What was the stock assessment of this "dead tree" blog? Junk?

  • Fritzdecat

Wow Grade A Nutters...give em a wide berth and keep the straightjackets on standby.

  • nohateparade

    @ Gothamist_Cynic

i don't think the asian woman is on any side of the fence. she is merely some republican's housekeeper and is just being paid to "hold this". beats vacuuming and scrubbing.

  • NannyState

If they shout loud enough, these Jesusy Republicans can help drive McCain's poll numbers even lower.

  • berniegoetz

Haha...look at those stupid fucking idiots who don't think like we think. What a bunch of stupid fucking idiots!

  • Billiamsburg

They don't feel ostracized that their candidate called them un-American for living in a big city? I love people so stupid you can call them stupid to their face that they just stand their smiling stupidly back at you.

  • megs

I think everyone should have the right to express their idiotic fucking opinion.

Still, it must be scary to be that crazy.

  • Thespis

It's good to see that Christians are heavily involved in politics, just like Jesus said they should be.

  • woodendesigner

Wow! Looks like they could have all been rounded up at one time with just one prison bus. What a bunch of retards.

  • LostDemocracy

The SHORTS IN THE Stock MARKET ARE PRICING IN OBAMA”S VICTORY

The reason I will not vote for Obama is because I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY A RUSSIAN ROULETTE.

  • Kevin Walsh

    >>>>McCain supporters do exist in NYC (we're guessing there are lots on Staten Island!)

    Actually, there are.

  • fakenewyorker

... i said 'kooks,' not gooks, you know the kind mccain hates.

  • fakenewyorker

why are they picketing the nytimes?

    they endorsed mccain and clinton.

    bunch of kooks.

  • Kojak

Whoa that lady needs to get laid.

  • Mr Mel

That Blond looks like one nasty Christian.

  • nycviabos

"Christians for McCain/Palin"? Seems kind of redundant. I thought all "Real Americans" were Christians.

  • S.D.

Um, they were protesting against a a Free Press?

    Seriously???

  • JacqueMehoff

I stumbled onto a YR meeting one night,

it was all whites and Indians, not tonto indian but ghunga din indian.

  • rcltrh

Looks like she's probably shouting curses and obscenities like a good Christian Mccain supporter would.

  • Gothamist_Cynic

I'm disappointed in Asians who vote for McCain.
