Last Night's Action: The Grating One Returns

Did Sean Avery win a Stanley Cup with the Rangers when we weren’t looking? Sorry for asking, but with all the ovations for Avery Sunday and Monday it seemed like we had forgotten something. Avery certainly meant a lot to the Rangers in his 18 months with the team, but he was hardly the second coming of Mark Messier.

Monday night Avery was his usual antagonistic self, trying to mix it up with Brandon Dubinsky in the warm-ups and then trying to get after Henrik Lundqvist and Scott Gomez in the first period. In the end, Avery wasn’t much of a factor, as he didn’t even draw a penalty in his 17 shifts Monday.

But, the Stars ended up on top, winning 2-1 thanks to a goal from Mike Modano midway into the third period. The Rangers now get a well-deserved rest after playing seven games in eleven nights.

I hate the Rangers and hated them even more when the acquired that turd Avery. They habitually sign players well past their primes, Fleury, Verbeek, Gretzky, Shanahan, LaFontaine, Jagr in the hopes some good will come of it all. Avery will be an asshole anywhere he goes-no matter the color of the jersey...

The fact that he had those stats while on the Rangers really just shows how horrible the rest of the team was/is. Jagr was supposedly the star of the team and they let him go at the end of last season.

personality aside, ranking 8th on the team in points 5th in goals (4 game winners), playing only 57 games (as opposed to 80 or so) is hardly NOTHING on the ice.

i bet if he were still wearing blue, you'd change your tune.

Avery is a fucking dick. He made fun of Jason Blake having cancer and he called Georges Laraque, one of the few black players in the league, a monkey.

He's never a factor. He's a useless slab of flesh in a hockey uniform. Kinda like Chris Pronger.

hey peter, were you at the game? clearly not. i was. they booed him and heckled him through-out the night? he was not even a factor on the ice much.
