Last Night's Action: Working Overtime

- Oakland 16 Jets 13 (OT): Sometimes coaches outsmart themselves. With the Jets trailing by three late in the fourth quarter, Brett Favre drove them down the field and into position to attempt a very distant field goal (52-yards). Jay Feely lined up and kicked the ball, but it hit off the upright. Luckily, for New York, the Oakland coaches had called a time out to try and “ice the kicker”. With a second chance, Feely made a correction in his kicking motion and knocked it through to send the game to OT.
Neither team seemed able to create much traction in OT and the Raiders finally mounted a bit of a drive as time was winding down. But, the Jets defense stiffened and forced Oakland into a tough choice, attempt a 57-yard field goal which would win the game but also leave the Jets on the 47-yard line if they missed. Oakland went for the field goal and the Jets didn’t call time. Sebastian Janikowski knocked it thought the uprights and the Raiders won the game.
- Giants 29 49ers 17: It wasn’t pretty. In fact the Giants will probably want to destroy the tapes of this game. They let an inferior opponent hang around far too long, allowed a field goal to be blocked and returned for a touchdown and generally lost their cool far too often. But, in the end they won the game and that is the most important thing. At 5-1 they sit atop the NFC East by a game over Washington, but their final 10 games are very, very tough.
