Dog Costumes on Upper East Side Will Melt Your Heart

Awww, are you ready to have your heart warmed up by 100 zillion watts of pure canine cuteness? While the furry masses crowded Times Square Sunday for the Fourth Annual Dog Day Masquerade, the city's well-heeled hounds opted for a more refined day of dress-up at Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side, where the annual Halloween Howl was as pup-ular as ever. Flickr aficionado "istolethetv" was all over it like Scooby on snacks.

I really love that pug dressed as a cow!

I would like to see people who make their pets wear silly costumes dragged around by the neck, made to eat processed horse meat out of a bowl and forced to relieve themselves in public. My cat would scratch me to death if I tried to make her wear some hideous costume, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

guess it's cool of gothamist to give equal time to dogs.
anyway, I was surprised that cat owners at the show let the public get so close to their cats. usually it's Don't Touch! (germs and all)

This is another issue that's grossly neglected by the media, the violation of animal rights by forcing their pets to dress up for the amusement of their owners. Palin/McCain has came out against this issue and has proposed legislations to oulaw such inhumane acts.

I can't wait to dress my dog up this weekend at the Fort Greene Park event. Yeah I know some people disagree with dogs wearing costumes...but then some people have no sense of humor!

Dude- It is the McCain/Palin stance on this very issue that has convinced me to vote for Obama/Biden. Government has no place in deciding how we raise our pets!

I think it's whether your dog has a sense of humor is what counts. Pets have feelings too, you heartless owner!

Dressing your dog up is moronic. As is supporting McCain/Palin.

my wife dresses up our dog for Halloween, and I can tell by the look on his face that he is embarrassed.

It might make Fido uncomfortable, but I think the one in pink is getting the last laugh.

Palins hunts animals from helicopters. Honestly, I don't think it is cruel if it is not restrictive. Also if they don't paint the dog's fur. It is good fun. I wish people would adopt mutts instead of funding puppy mills.

I can not begin to tell how much I loath dog costumes. I can't even begin, hey are heinous and often seem cruel and uncomfortable to the animals, let alone to their dignity.

I think the phelps one is hilarious.
