thefacts, that is a great idea. Let's actually provide facilities for cyclists to lock up that are not in people's way on the sidewalk. Some curbside parking spots for cars could be replaced with 10 or so parking spots for bikes: http://www.naparstek.com/2005_11_01_archive.php

You could have them metered if you want. The are trying it out in Japan: http://qjphotos.wordpress.com/2008/06/04/bicycle-parking-meters/

So rare to see you supporting trying something new.

They are rarely enforced?!?? How about the day I got out of my car and walked the 12 feet to the corner before I realized I had forgotten to put a quarter in the meter? By the time I turned around some A-Hole cop was already ticketing my car. It couldn't have been more than 1 1/2 minutes since I got out of the car.

This is just an excuse for the city to double meter rates under the guise they are doing it for our benefit. It may be Monday morning, but that doesn't mean we are groggy enough not to smell a load of horse sh*t.

The last quote of the article says it all:
"Asked if he thought the meter rate increase would free up more parking spaces, the man, just before pulling away, said, “Tell you the truth, I don’t think so.”

How about also metering locations for all the bikes that clog the Village's narrow sidewalks, or for selfish cyclists who chain their personal property to fragile city trees, potentially harming them?

Please don't use West Village. Use Greenwich Village instead.
