McCain Supporter Attacked on East Side Last Month

2008_10_rmb.jpgPolitico's Ben Smith got confirmation from the Manhattan DA's office about an incident last month where a female McCain supporter was assaulted at Lexington Avenue and 51st Street. According to conservative blog The Silent Majority, a man--without provocation--grabbed the woman's McCain sign, ripped it up, and hit her with it, bruising her face. The victim followed him into the 6 train subway station and found police officers on the platform; she added that he was only arrested after she showed the cops her bruised face. The assailant allegedly said, "I don’t know why I did this. It’s just those signs, and this election, it has me so upset.” Smith reports that the man, Bernard Feuerman, was charged with second degree assault and has a January 23 court date.

"Republican motto: Spin everything, steal everything."

Sure. I guess that's why none of the attacks by Obama supporters on White people have even been mentioned on CNN, MSNBC, or FOX, huh?? God forbid anyone mention blacks committing crimes. Why, that's just "racist"! Google 'McCain supporters attacked', and quit blaming "whitey" when it's black people that are committing hate-crimes!! Oh, I suppose I'm a "Nazi" now for speaking the truth, huh?

  • chris lee

This may be a true story, it may not. It's plausible, not necessarily TRUE in this case.

  • jnguy

#18, I'd be willing to bet a dollar that most of these democrats you're talking about are all talk no walk. Actually beating someone seems excessive... I hope.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

he could be a republican upset with the way McCain ran the campaign and lost the republicans the executive office. no more 8 year.

  • Amanda Harletsch

    yeah, poor woman...

Dick-heads (the assailant ) are dick-heads regardless of who are they voting for.

In comparison republicans would have a tougher time hiding the animosity against liberals.

That is even launching wars and totally using the military to assure resources around the world and that is perfectly ok, the corporate fraud impunity is also perfectly fine...

Liberals don't milk this type of events becoming heroes of their own fulfilled plots against them, like republicans do...in fact the only thing they do is to formulate plots, even when facts point at them as the only cause.

Fear of change is tool number 1 of republicans: anybody but them is the enemy:

even EDUCATION and of course civility in all its forms.

  • Thanks for sharing, this is a fantastic post. Thanks Again. Really Great.

  • JacqueMehoff

and the republicans and their kill him are A-OK.

want to go tit for tat? the right are much much worse with their bombings, lynchings, beatings, assaults, Lies, and more Lies.

  • matty

    A. Isolated incident. who cares...

    B. ides: again, your idiocy rules.

    C. if you commit a crime, please stay out of the subway. you will cause delays.

  • Billiamsburg

    Obscene gestures?! *SHRIEEEEEEK!*

McCain supporters are usually so passive and reserved. They would never shout things like "Kill him!" and "terrorist!" at their rallies.

  • Steven

Being a McCain supporter in a very liberal and democratic New York City is not a good mix.

  • The Edge

#17- Read some of the comments posted by some of the more liberal on this very site would say otherwise.

    ides_of_march,

I would hardly characterize this douche bag as your typical big city liberal.

  • JacqueMehoff

the pro mccain supporters also reminded me of the venom and hatred shown following the desegregation ruling. bet they're still at it.

  • JacqueMehoff

actually a gang of old mccain supporters attacked a couple guys in Mass. he showed his bruise to the press.

  • ides_of_march

    "1] You sound very bitter."

Bitter? I'm not the one physically assaulting people I disagree with politically.

  • ides_of_march

This sort of hostility and intimidation towards anyone daring to support a republican in NYC is not an isolated incident.

There was a pro McCain march on the upper west side recently and the marchers were subject to verbal abuse and obscene gestures that reminded me of the angry whites who taunted black students trying to attend college classes following desegregtion. Hatred pure and simple.

Big city liberals pride themselves on being enlightened, non-prejudicial, rational and open-minded.

    They are not.

  • I always make short post, not because I don’t have any idea to write, but I’m still learning English, so sometimes the problem is not about the idea, but what words should I use lol.

Oh, and I suppose McCain's supporters are as pure and peaceful as driven snow, right?

We could go on. The bottom line is that idiots, creeps and assholes aren't exclusive to one party, and this election has inspired abhorrent behavior on both sides.

  • Pull My Finger

Just another dumb ass New York lib.

  • Spirit of 76

[1] You sound very bitter. You must already know McCain has no chance of winning. Given how badly this country has suffered under Dubya, I can't say that I'm sad about that.

  • glennQNYC

Post #1 got it spot on.

  • ironybubble

I can understand that he was mad but to state the obvious that was a pretty crappy way for him to handle it. A middle-aged woman? wtf?

On a related note: if you add up all the isolated instances of violence that have resulted from this election so far and compare it with, say, a European football match... we're not doing too bad.

  • JacqueMehoff

let's take it up a notch! bamm!

I did notice more mccain palin T shirts out there now but not from an old lady. she's old timey racist, you can't change that.

you saw some at the pro term limits hearing. my vid capture card was working overtime.

If the sign holder was a man who could clock Bernard Feuermam, it's doubtful we would see so much "passion". Hope he finds some passionate guys on Rikers'.

  • jonathan

#1: Probably a fresh convert from the Republicans. He has much to learn. Assassinations, beatings, and physical violence are definitely the right's mantra.

Oh goodie, another liberal teaches us "tolerance" , "non-violence" and "conflict resolution" by example yet again.
