Rangers 1, Maple Leafs 0: Tom Renney mixed up his lines tonight and while it didn’t produce any points, the effort was encouraging. Chris Drury is back as a center and Scott Gomez has a couple of new wingers and both lines showed some promise Friday. But, despite 32 shots, the Rangers couldn’t crack the Toronto net.
The two teams were scoreless after three periods and overtime, so it went to a shootout and Nikolai Zheredev led things off for New York with a goal. After Toronto tied it, Frederick Sjostrom scored the game winner, just pushing the puck through the right pad of the Toronto goaltender. The win gives the Rangers a 6-1 start, but they head to Detroit tonight for a big matchup with the Red Wings.
