Last Night's Action: Brick Wall

  • Devils 1, Thrashers 0: Martin Brodeur made 25 saves -- maybe he should pitch in the Rays' bullpen -- and Devils made good use of Brian Rolston's second-period goal. Things got scary when Rolston later had to be helped off the ice, but he only has a sprained ankle. Brodeur only has 97 career shutouts. That is six shy of the record set by Terry Sawchuk.

  • Islanders 4, Lightning 3: Trent Hunter's second goal of the game came 51 seconds into overtime and gave the Islanders a sudden-death win. The goal was a huge gift, however, as Tampa Bay goalie Olaf Kolzig misplayed the puck behind the net. For the Islanders, this game was a nice recovery. They blew 2-0 and 3-2 leads.
