Tabloid Cover Barometer: Third Presidential Debate

2008_10_dbcov.jpg

The Daily News makes it clear that it thinks John McCain was a whiner during last night's debate. And it's no surprise that the right-leaning NY Post thinks he was on the attack--but how much of a third debate victory did he score if he has to share the cover with Madonna and Guy Ritchie? (OMG, A-Rod went to Yom Kippur services with Madonna and the kids--no Guy--last week!)

But we are shocked no one wanted to use this amazing Reuters photograph from after the debate--according to the caption, McCain was "reacting" to "almost heading the wrong way off the stage after shaking hands with" Obama.

How stupid do you have to be to actually believe the "secret muslim" thing?

After reading Dreams from my Father, I actually think he's basically agnostic. If you experience more than one religion in your life, you probably learn not to take it too literally.

  • NannyState

I can't wait to elect a "secret muslim".

  • HUGO_MEGO

Typical neo-lib media glad to publish unflattering pictures of McCain but too chicken shit to ever make Obama, the secret muslim, look bad.

  • Teddie Boy Eddie

Anyone else find it odd that McCain doesn't know that autism and Down syndrome are not the same thing? So, while he tried to use Palin's son's condition as a political ploy, he actually made an even bigger fool of himself.

  • pk4l

Love the picture! Obama has it in the wrap!

  • Spirit of 76

[13] Uh, is there a moment of your life that you ever got back? If so, please let me know how. I've never been able to get so much as a split second back.

Sorry, but that old remark has never worked, at least in my mind.

  • SP

Yup, McCain was on the attack again, that is correct. And that's why he lost the debate. He still doesn't get it. We want to hear about solutions. We want considered, intelligent, empathetic, positive responses to the questions, not snarky, sarcastic, frustrated one liners and character attacks.

omg, he is having a stroke, Palin is in. :(

  • Politburo

beezbo - If you'll excuse my convoluted description.. It was after the debate, both candidates stood up and went to walk around the table to do handshaking. McCain started to go around the same way as Obama, then for whatever reason couldn't decide which way he wanted to go around the table and did that little grimace/dance before turning around.

  • just saying

I think McCain is choking on his words.

He needs to have someone perform the Heimlich maneuver on him immediately.

  • JacqueMehoff

I think McCain had another tantrum glitch when their spouses got on stage. he thought michelle was going to shake his hand before her husband's.

    and, those pointy fingers...

  • flyingjesuit

An hour and a half of my life I will never have back.

  • JRod5417

I just found my new computer wallpaper. Thanks Gothamist!

  • beezbo

Okay I missed that moment on TV - Why in the heck does he have his arms and tongue sticking out?

    Did he trip?

    Someone please help me understand...

  • Politburo

Even if McCain's attacks failed, I think it's still accurate to say he was "on the attack".

  • Toby von Meistersinger

I would have the same reaction as McCain if I saw either of them. They would both make me physically ill.

  • McCain wasn't on the attack, he tried to attack and failed, again. Obama came out on top as usual and did very well.

  • lanciano

UGH! I wish we could delete/edit our own posts!!

Obviously i meant NOT watching the same channel.

  • lanciano

NYpost once again now watching the same channel as the rest of us. "blistering" is hardly how i would describe mccain.

  • Mr Mel

A-Rod went to Yom Kippur services?

    Where?

  • Innajunglestylee

Actually, the UK Independent used that image to illustrate their story on the debate.

    Gotta love those Brits.
