McCain Visits Letterman, Likens Visit to Interrogation

CBS released a little 4+ minute preview of Senator John McCain's visit to Late Show with David Letterman (the full interview airs tonight at 11:35 p.m.). McCain cancelled a visit to the show late last month, telling Letterman he had to get back to Washington D.C. to deal with the economic crisis...but actually stuck around for interviews with other outlets, prompting Letterman's relentless skepticism.

In the clip above, McCain admits he "screwed up". Letterman asked some tough questions too, about William Ayers, how Sarah Palin talks about Obama "palling around with terrorists" (plural--so who ar the other terrorists), and questioning McCain's relationship with G. Gordon Liddy! Maybe Letterman should have been one of the debate moderators.

take it you blinky little trick, TAKE IT!

Just watched the airing of it and Dave grills him. Even better, the musical guest Ne-Yo performed excellently. At the end he swings around in a dance move to show his back which has a picture of Obama on it. The editors/producers probably decided it might insult McCain's camp and make the video editors pick odd angles of the stage to avoid showing the Obama endorsement picture.

McCain is finished.

I just want these horrible people to be out of my sight, forever and ever. These two weeks can't end quickly enough.

I wonder what the Devil will do with Senator McCain's soul.

Really? He can't handle a comedy talk show host? Even Palin almost cracked under little Katie Couric. Hey, I know McCain went through hell as a POW, but I thought he's been bragging that he still had it in him.

Gee, it's not waterboarding, guys, though Paul Shaffer can definitely be torture.

Wow vanessa, what a witty comment, NOT!

Why are all the neo-libs angry that McCain was on Letterman? If Palin ever gets on SNL what will you do then? LOL

I wonder if Dave will grill Obama over his experience as much as he did Sarah's with McCain. She has more executive experience than all 3 of the men in the race. Apparently a woman does indeed have to do things twice as good as a man to be considered half as good.

ides: i hear there's an opening for editor at juneauist.com ...do us all a favor, will ya?

Ides, it's not simply time on the job. We strongly suspect that Palin is stupid, see? Unintelligent, brainless, vacuous, simple, incurious...(enter your synonym here). At the most she is very mediocre. McCain, Obama, Biden, Hillary, all have shown some evidence of intelligence, even thoughtfulness at times. Sarah "I didn't blink" Palin, not so much. A manager at Wlamart, perhaps, but VP or God forbid President of the most powerful nation on Earth? Really? You're comfortable with that idea? Thank God according to polls most Americans apparantly are not.

Good for Letterman. Let's just the hope the media doesn't start latching on to the "comeback" narrative now that he's behind. Those things have a way of sometimes becoming self-fulfilling.

and malebranche99, i most definitely second you. but let's not turn this into an elitist "maybe a constitutional law professor with a law degree from harvard (and he didn't get there because of a family name) knows more about being potus than someone with a journalism degree (really?) from some dubiously accredited school in idaho or utah or wherever it was she finally ended up who has only a record of killing wolves from airplanes and forcing rape patients to pay for their rape kits" argument.

Remember: For republicans lack of intelligence is political qualification, racists are the victims, vacuous spiels are what joe the plumber needs, Religious dogmatism is enlightenment, war is victory, health care is to be on your own, education is home schooling, women rights is no reproduction rights, economic recession is only government spending...shall we keep reverting civil society with misguidance just because the dumbest portion of society buys into this language after this mentality has sunk this country in the dark ages?

MCCAIN TRUTHS:
"that's all we need to know"
... REALLY?!

I thought Letterman handled McCain correctly. Dave was still smarting from the snub and he pointedly asked some tough questions and McCain tried to waltz around them. Let's not forget this was not Meet The Press but an entertainment venue. I doubt the Senator's handlers will allow Palin to appear on the Late Show before the election. After the voting she'll be recognized as the mean spirited fake that she really is. She'll be old news and a major cause of McCain's defeat.

Palin is set for SNL Saturday, HUGO. SNL will put her in a situation she will do well.

McCain will revert to his old persona after the election. If Obama wins, he needs McCain to be mavericky in the Senate.

I think McCain jilting Letterman hurt McCain. It proved his campaign suspension was a stunt. Letterman morphed into Jack Paar

The problem with the modern mass media: The jesters are doing the best job of informing the voters.

Fuck you mdowning. The best of the best have no business being nominated for the toughest job in America. We need visceral leadership. Someone who knows what it's like to be stupid and racist and fanatically religious. Someone who knows that USA is number one bro!

Btw, I love it when people like ides refer to Palin's "executive experience." They're right though, shit like troopergate proves that she's ready to be part of the Washington BS brigade.

When McCain is all "I've been to _____, I've been there, why haven't you Barack?" I wonder if he realizes that Palin literally got her passport like a year ago. Fucking morons, both of them.

"Apparently a woman does indeed have to do things twice as good as a man to be considered half as good."

McCain himself said how proud he was of Palin in this week's debate. Talk about paternalistic and condescending.

Can we sue the Viet Cong for malpractice?
