AC/DC and Wal-Mart Take Over Times Square

phpLjFzCIPM.jpgLegendary rockers AC/DC have joined forces with...Wal-Mart? The big box store will set up shop in Times Square this week, but don't worry, it's just a temporary pop-up. Reuters reports that they'll also "have a truck roving around the city to celebrate the launch of AC/DC’s new album. On Saturday night, at the Times Square MTV store, Wal-Mart and MTV will unveil the 'AC/DC Rock Band store' and sell the first copies of the new album." And yet, they won't offer their music online.

Hey, what were those other temporary pop ups we used to have all over town? Oh, right; record stores. Those things stayed up for years it seemed.

Way to go, AC/DC -- a Wal Mart exclusive in the age of dying indy stores.

For Those About To Rock -- within the mutually agreed upon boundaries of exclusive rights to distribute and sell the Artist's material henceforth referred to as "The Work" in exchange for promotional, financial, and other considerations detailed herein -- We Salute You.

I guess this is the only way Wal-Mart can open a store up in NYC?

Who buys new AC/DC albums anyway?

It's already on bit torrent so yea who would buy a cd from crap mart

way to rebel against the man by selling out to them.

tourists will flock this "one-time-only-in-nyc" hyped event. it'll be worthwhile for the publicity. kaching!!!

Somehow the thought of AC/DC singing "Highway to Hell" with a Wal-Mart banner behind them makes perfect sense.

The deal is AC/DC have already been paid - WalMart bought out tons of CD's so Walmart sells them and profits from them directly - OK - no biggie - guaranteed millions of CD sales before an album hits the stores is something any artist would sign up for - my question is with such clout will Walmart now start dictating what words they can or can't use - like would AC/DC be able to release an album with Big Balls on it these days?
