Last Night's Action: New Country, No Problem

  • Rangers 4, Blackhawks 2: Jet lag didn't appear to be a problem for the Rangers, who won easily in their Stateside debut. Remember, they canceled the Lightning in two games in Prague last weekend. Wade Redden, Aaron Voros, Brandon Dubinsky and Nikolai Zherdev all scored for the Rangers, who never trailed. This is their first 3-0 start since 1989. Zherdev's goal came less than three minutes after the Blackhawks cut the lead to 3-2 helped reverse the momentum.
  • Devils 2, Islanders 1: Patrik Elias and Zach Parise each scored, but Martin Brodeur's save on a penalty shot was the big story as New Jersey won this opener for both clubs. Scott Gordon's NHL coaching debut was ruined. Doug Weight scored the only Islanders goal. Both teams are in action again Saturday night.

The goalie was Cristobal Huet, not Sopel.
