Today is Last Day for Walk-In Voter Registration

2008_10_bboe.jpgBucky from ANIMAL New York just emailed us about registering to vote in Brooklyn today:

I just went to 345 Adams Street [pictured] to register to vote. Today is the absolute last day for walk-ins. Yesterday was deadline for mail-in registration.

Anyway, an election worker actually told me that I was too late to register, she told me I missed the deadline. When I informed her that she was wrong she persisted. So I rode the elevator to the 4th floor and our mild argument continued until a supervisor asked what was going on. I told her about the woman who was giving wrong information (she had already walked through the employees only door).

The supervisor became very irate and reprimanded the woman over the PA system.

There are walk-in voter registration locations all over the city today until 9 p.m.: Here's a PDF of locations--the list of locations by borough, which include the borough offices, starts after page 2 (we just went to our local school, where registration is in full swing, to check). And here's more information from the NYC Board of Elections.

yeah, last day to register to vote for landslide obama victory.

If you call the NYC-VOTE number you get a recorded message saying that the last day to register was friday october 10th, and there is no information about where you can actually register! Also, if you try to get a real person on the line, you get "call back during business hours".

I have been looking all over the net to find an address for where my neighbors can go to register in person today. I have not found one yet!

It's all find and good to tell people they can still register, but we need some actual addresses!

@cucarachita - page 2 of this PDF (also linked above) has addresses in Manhattan for walk in registration today.

she must have been a GOP transplant.

I registered at ACORN, just kidding.
there's so many get out the vote orgs out there that it's hard not to walk through Manhattan without one soliciting you.
I find them to be around supermarkets the most.
and, they don't tell you what party to register with.

Yes, I know, I finally noticed there were two pages to the PDF. In my rush to get info, I was not as observant as I might have been.

Anyway, thanks Jen. In the future, it's better not to link to PDF files. Most people I know who aren't great at computers, particularly the ones on PC, don't know what to do when the window comes up asking them how they want to open a PDF file. Even on my computer, it takes forever for PDF links to open, and I often have to shut my browser when it gets stuck opening a PDF.

If you want to truly be helpful, it's better to just cut and past all the addresses, or link to a regular HTML page.

That said, I printed up a bunch of non-partisan flyers and pasted them all around my neighborhood. I put the address of our nearest registration center on it, too. (I can't take care of everyone, but I can do my best with my own neighborhood!)
The MTA guy in the subway booth was really nice about putting it up for me, too.

i went to register yesterday and inquired about the last day to register for my friends and was told the same thing. i also went to my local post office to pick up registration forms and was told that they were ALL OUT. way to let the voters down.

Bucky Turco is the best blogger alive, not Charles Hamilton.

I ♥ Animal. That would be a nice shirt.

Remember neo-libs, vote twice! LOL
