Nice Work, Rensselaer County

The Times Union reports that absentee ballots for Rensselaer County read "Barack Osama" for the Democratic candidate--not Barack Obama. Both the Democratic and Republican commissioners claim it was an "honest mistake" and "typo," the article also points out the skepticism (hello, the b and s keys aren't even that close to each other!). Voters who called to complain are receiving new ballots, but one said, "It's a little suspicious and at least grossly incompetent. If I crossed out the name and wrote in the right spelling my ballot would be invalid." [Via Runnin' Scared]

People may laugh at these sort of stuff, but it goes straight to the head of gullible, empty headed voters everywhere.

And yes, the McCain camp is hitting the panic button right now. Yahoo's Political Dashboard has been showing growing poll numbers for oBama, since the debate It doesn't look too good that he defaulted on Michigan either.

Amid this crisis, the election can't come soon enough. Some of that may be playing into the market as well, uncertainty about who is gonna win and what kind of economic policies will the winner take.

Rensselaer County is across the Hudson River from Albany County. There may be affluent areas, but most of the county is either rural and farmland, or Troy (the armpit of the state). And don't underestimate the incompetence and the stupidity of the county workers (NOT state workers) who were responsible for this debacle.
