Black McCain Supporter Found Living in NYC!

100908freshprince.jpgMeet Richard Ivory: New Yorker, blogger, black man, and John McCain supporter. He also works as a counselor to mentally ill patients, but he himself is not mentally ill—he just doesn't want another tax-and-spend Democrat to undo the proud achievements of George Bush, even if said Democrat would, you know, be America's first black president. Today the Times takes a look at what it's like to be a black Republican for John McCain living in liberal elitist New York City. Ivory (not pictured here) says he's gotten used being called "Uncle Tom, sellout, self-hater," and isn't even upset about that time a white man confronted him and a black friend at the 2004 Republican Convention to warn them that "protesters were not welcome." He tells the Times, "I always say my heart is with Obama but my brain is with McCain."

somebody check that man's brain.
he's ebony AND ivory,

somebody call the wb, we have a new sitcom.

Hi we need a picture of a black man quick!!!

Erm.......Carlton from Fresh Prince was black, check google images.

Ah, nice thanks

The choice of image is sheer genius

classic case of the intellectual black man thats jealos of another black man rising above him. He played one of the whitest black men on tv how ironic.

He should support Obama simply because he's black? That's just ignorant. He's entitled to his own opinions.

one might think putting Carlton's picture on this article would be an obvious joke but apparently some people don't get it.

Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, is not actually the McCain supporter this article is about.

If I'm not mistaken Carlton was republican in the Fresh Prince. So, the sitcom idea might not be that "fresh".

Anyways, if I were to a party convention and be told to leave because of my skin color/race or any other discriminatory aspect of myself, I'd certainly wouldn't be A REGISTERED MEMBERED OF SAID PARTY.

These are people that supposedly think alike. Why would I wanna be part of such a racist group? That's the reason that man needs to be checked by a psychologist.

this guy is a washed up has been in the article he said hes 80 percent decided for mc same. Obviously he has no other way to garner his 80's sucess. He looks like an elf now. They should have used the times photo too.

Some of the stupid comments here such as #8's show that liberals are just as ignorant and intolerant as Palin supporting religious "rednecks."

The reason why the republicans had all the power in the last decade is cause their constituents believe that a white zombie from the middle east could walk on water. Almost all of the republican leadership are also closet gay masochists. You follow that evolutionary social insanity's trajectory and this happens.

There is so much wrong with this article and comments. Way too much for me to even begin.

I will say this: Hey, Reflect (Poster #4). You wrote: He played one of the whitest black men on tv how ironic.

How exactly do you play a white man? How do you play white? Carlton Banks played a person from Beverly Hills. I suppose I am playing white because I use correct English or because I watch 90210 or because I like Hollister. Is that what you are saying. It sounds like you are and you my dear are a jackass.

The color you are born has no influence on social trademarks like diction, way of dress, musical tastes, etc. etc.

Dumbass.

Did anyone tell him that he is black and he must vote for the black guy? How dare he think for himself. What the hell is wrong with him?

Why do you keep posting photos that don't relate to the post?

John: There is a photo of him on his website.

Why not just use that photo to illustrate your story?

Using Alfonso Ribeiro's photo is asinine and, more to the point, unnecessary.

only difference between ObAMA and OsAMA is a little bs

A black man voting for Republicans? Yeah that happens.

Someone in NYC voting for McCain? Hm...less likely but yeah some will.

But someone in both categories? Stop making stuff up!

Richard Ivory isn't very bright.

With Carlton it was not because he was "whitest black guy ever!."

It was due to the fact that his family was well to do and he comes from an upper class background.

It's a Class thing, not Race.

Tax and spend Democrats? Hmmmmm, guess he doesn't realize the enormous amount of spending W and Republicans have authorized in the last 8 years. Sadly all that spending pretty much amounted to bombing the shit out of a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 9/11/01, Al Qaeda, or WMDs.

It makes baby jesus horses cry.

a typical republican: selfish & stupid.

he is so selfish that he supports a party that allows him to profit by ruining the economy & his fellow citizens.

if he were smart he would have realized how racist most of them are & he wouldn't try to hang out with republicans at their convention.

he's also "a staunch supporter of the Iraq war" in other words he's a chicken hawk.

Zodak:

Democrats don't spend excessively at the hand of the taxpayer? While both do in 2008, in theory Republicans seek to save everyone money through the free market and thus lower taxes and tariffs.

Please don't lump us all as selfish and stupid. I find social programs, the federal income tax, and Congress deciding things not authorized in the Constitution to be quite selfish and stupid.

If whites can belong to either party, be liberal or conservative and nobody blinks an eye, why can't black people?

Why are mostly white liberals deciding what's an appropriate political position for people of color?

I thought black people were as free to choose these things for themselves. Unfortunately too many out there refuse to see blacks as individuals who can think for themselves, they prefer to keep them as a monolithic voting block and on the democrat party plantation.

everybody pipe down with the bullshit - don't make me call Dolemite...

"tax-and-spend Democrat" LMFAO!!!! Reagan, both Bushes spent us into enormous deficits, while Clinton left us with a budget surplus.

This is a goof, right? That's a photo of the actor who played Will Smith's cousin in "Fresh Prince".

I think it's really funny that people don't get the use of the photo for the article and think that Alfonso Ribeiro is Richard Ivory.

How do you play a white man? Act entitled while overlooking the obvious opportunities you have had to live in beverly hills. Identify with terms like joe six pack, tommy methlab, or swipe your forehead in disbelif as the dow drops and you realize that the trips to gallergers2000 will have to come to a close end.

"tax-and-spend Democrat" LMFAO!!!! Reagan, both Bushes spent us into enormous deficits, while Clinton left us with a budget surplus.

A budget surplus is NOT savings.

"Why do you keep posting photos that don't relate to the post?"

Because Gothamist is run by corporate hipsters.

I totally agree with The Klaus. What really scares me is that lately I've been feeling Baby Hitler.

I am dumbfounded that Republics still have a reputation for being fiscally responsible.

John Del Signore, I totally agree with that scare. I'm finding it better than the alternative lately...

piknyc, spot on.

Amazing. That so much intellectual brainwaves can be so completely misused as in this forum. Amazing.

If you don't like the present government, go out and vote and change it. If you feel strongly about your presedential selection, vote for him.'

But please, please, do not whine and moan and cry about how so bad one party or the other may be. If anyone here (and I believe there are some) really wanted to really admit it, both parties have over the course of this countries existance, made serious mistakes, blunders, and errors in judgement. Afterall, the ones actually running the country are POLITICIANS. They will say or do anything to get elected. It is the lot of the people to figure out which ones will cause us the least harm in the long term, get rid of the ones that do not respect our wishes (that's gonna be a hard one) and elect new people who may just get the idea that they don't own the country, WE do.
