"Berlin Wall of Ground Zero"

2008_10_gzconst.jpgThe Daily News calls a retaining wall at the World Trade Center site the "wall of shame" (as well as the "Berlin Wall of Ground Zero") because it's the source of tension between the Port Authority which is overseeing construction and developer Larry Silverstein. Although the site has been turned over Silverstein to start his construction--and the Port Authority paid over $43 million in $300,000/day late fees because they were late with finishing their work-- Silverstein wants the Port Authority to remove the wall, which he claims "makes it impossible for him to dig the skyscraper's foundation and impedes his access to the site." And the developer thinks Port Authority should continue to pay him the $300,000/day fines for not delivering the site properly. Way to work together!
