"Get your friends together, get handgun permits for security guards, and take to the streets." Nice plan, but... you'll be arrested for illegally carrying your handguns. A guard carry license requires your weapon to unloaded and locked except while you are at home, actively working for the employer identified on the license, or directly en route between those two locations.

What we need is for the people to finally realize the government can't and won't protect you. We need to think and act locally. We need neighborhood security forces composed of armed volunteers. Get your friends together, get handgun permits for security guards, and take to the streets.

DONT WEAR YOUR IPOD ON THE STREET. I see people doing it quite often, if lowers your focus, even if they are turned off and/or the music is very low. And use your head: do not scream if the mugger is close by AND armed. Hope she gets better and the low life gets caught.
