Great architecture allowed to go stale. This renovation should reveal this gem once more and give a boost to the GW and the neighborhood.

Years ago, there used to be long distance bus service at the GW Bus terminal; Trailways used to depart the 42nd street terminal and stop there before taking Route 95 North across the Bronx or 95 South/80 West across the bridge. Now, that area has been taken over by the cheap vans that cross the bridge. Better than having the place abandoned, I suppose.

Surprisingly, Santiago Calatrava visited the GW station to look at its roof design by Pier Luigi Nervi (which was very modernistic and celebrated when it was first built) to get inspiration for the WTC transit hub station that he later designed. Sadly, it appears that Calatrava's unique addition to the NYC skyline might be as likely to be built as the movie multiplex and the Barnes and Noble proposed for the GW station.
