THEATER: With their son away for the night for the first time, middle-class couple Adam and Jan finally have a chance to cut loose in their Brooklyn brownstone. But in Michael Weller's new play Fifty Words, cutting loose means cutting each other down to size with escalating viciousness. The Times's Ben Brantley calls stars Norbert Leo Butz and Elizabeth Marvel "two of the finest American stage stars of their generation," and he's right as usual. "Together they’re so good, so specifically real that you start to feel toward them the way they feel toward each other. You find yourself wanting to leap onto the stage and, depending on the moment, hold or hit them." – John Del Signore
