What did Williamsburg latinos go though? Being harassed/forced out of their apartments by greedy landlords who wanted to "accommodate" arriving hipsters from Manhattan or Ohio. At least one benefit of the economic downturn is parents who will think twice about supporting their "kids" New York adventure.

I looked at a place on 18th and 6th ave in 2006 and it was in a shitty building, listed as a 2 bed when the second bedroom was maybe 6X7 and the bathroom was in stairway area outside of the locked apartment door. and it was $2200. so ya, north park slope by 4th ave is for the most part cheaper and closer to more transportation. But whatevs.

Ask me November 5th; possibly Berlin. That's what a lot of people said 4 years ago, I'll leave the country if Bush wins. Anyway, Berlin is a lot different now than when I first visited in 1990, so it's not a bad place to live/work, but it's getting more expensive (still cheaper than here).

Oh man. So true. At the beginning of each month, more and more kids unload UHAULs full of track bikes, fluorescent clothing, and record collections. This is what happens when there are good-sized apartments available for sub-$700 a month. A couple coffee shops and semi-hipster bars spotted the trend a few months ago, so they’re bound to eventually start turning a profit. The really shitty part is that Greenwood has been a haven for Brooklyn’s latinos, and I’m afraid they’re about to go through what Williamsburg latinos just went through.

this has been happening for a while. when i moved out of sunset park to greenpoint 3 years ago, people told me i was going against the trend. greenpoint & williamsburg are way too expensive, and bushwick is overrated.
