Third Term Fallout: Quinn Out, Thompson, Weiner Still in Mayoral Race

After Mayor Bloomberg made it clear he'd run for a third term if the City Council passes legislation to extend term limits to three terms, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn held a press conference. First, the legislation would permanently extend term limits to three. Second, she wouldn't run, "If term limits are extended to 12 years from 8 years, no, I would not run for mayor." As for other mentioned 2009 hopefuls, City Comptroller Bill Thompson's campaign is still "moving forward" and Representative Anthony Weiner, who narrowly lost the 2005 Democratic primary to Freddy Ferrer, is still interested in running and said there should be a special election for term limits.

ARRRRRGGGGGGH. This is self-serving crap.

I hope the voters teach these guys a lesson. But they probably won't.

Quinn is the worst speaker in history. She has used her slush to buy votes in the council. There is no democracy. I hope attorney general Garcia put her ass in jail. She doesn't permit bills to be hear unless she agrees to them. This is sickening.

I commend Quinn for her work regarding tenant's rights in NYC. She believes in keep communities together. Other than that, she can be a knucklehead. But, she's not out yet. The term limit is still law.

Why can't Bloomberg bow out gracefully?

Quinn voted for rezoning and removal of landmark status to pave the way for real estate developers. She recently join this tenant movement to salvage her image.

Bloomberg is turning into a douche.

There is term limits for a reason. We need fresh faces in politics. Not the same guy running the show for 30+ years.

Bloomberg should have at least tried to groom a successor the last couple of years.

OF COURSE she's not going to run for mayor this time around. That's part of the deal. Duh. She wrangles the Council for Bloomberg into passing a term limits amendment (not that hard since most of them would have to hit the bricks otherwise), he signs it, he gets to be mayor for four more years and she get to be Speaker for four more years. Is this really news to anyone?

Doesn't the iguana in that photo look like he's found his mommy?

Term limits were put in place for a reason, Quinn may not run, but she's not going away either, and sorry, we just can't have a mayor weiner.

If I don't get to vote against Christine Quinn, I'm not going to vote. So there.
