New Banksy Piece Going Up!

Following a new Banksy piece going up over the weekend, another one is taking form right now! This one is at the corner of Howard and Broadway, and the guys putting it up look like the same ones (with the same equipment) from Colossal Media who did the previous piece. While it's still unclear if Banksy is paying for these, or getting paid for them...there's clearly there's a rat theme going on here.

The rat is clearly commentary on our ethical law abiding Wall Street characters.

as a fan of banksy's work, i dont really like how banksy himself isn't putting these up. that's like the equivalent of a magritte sketching something and having another painter paint it. it's not the same.

These are so exciting. I can hardly contain myself. What next? Waterfalls in the East River?

it IS the same. throughout art history, artists from michelangelo to picasso (short & euro focused as it might be) have had other skilled artists render their works. being an artist is equal parts concept and skills. bank$y has both. kudos.

it would be great if this was deitch. it would suck for him if it wasn't.

ROTFL

Why do people keep calling these Banksy?

Yeah, to echo the point I made to ANIMAL NY on my Flickr, The hand is no different than what it creates. Just because Terry Richardson didn't press the shutter or Banksy didn't get up on the scaffold, does not mean they are not the artist. They are using tools (in this case, men) to realize the vision that they brought into the world.

It seems to me that people who say "it's not his work because he didn't paint it" are unfamiliar with the arts in general. Like calling someone who inks comic books a "tracer".

Just my $.02

isn't this a form of vandalism?

i am def unfamiliar with arts but i do know graffiti. my two cents is just that i prefer the old work he did that was innovative and sly, not overt and installed by paid third parties.

If graffiti is a sanctioned piece of art, is it still graffiti? And if someone tags it, then is that graffiti or is it vandalism? If Banksy is now rich, is he a graffiti artist or an artiste?

Sorry, but Banksy's entire ouvre looks like outtakes from "The Secret of NIHM".

Poor matty is far too fucking easily amused. what a fucktard.
