Don't think for a second that Margaret Arrighi, head of the Bronx Business Alliance, lives in New York City—to her it's the Serengeti, and the traffic agents are the bloodthirsty predators: "They wait for you to park. They come up from behind, like a tiger waiting for its prey. They snap the machine and the ticket has begun to be written. Instead of tapping on the window, instead of asking you to move, they say, ‘Don’t move the car.’ " Arrighi and other Bronx merchants are pressuring local officials to do something about what they say is an excessive amount of parking tickets being issued in the Bronx, driving away their customers.
The parking ticket backlash got a boost last May when 64-year-old Leo Magnotta suffered a heart attack while arguing with traffic cops as they wrote him a ticket for double-parking. (He had been waiting in the car for his wife outside a Subway sandwich shop on Tremont Avenue.) According to the Daily News, a Bronx funeral procession was also issued parking tickets two years ago. And last June, State Senator Jeff Klein issued a report indicating that some Bronx neighborhoods get a disproportionate number of parking tickets.
The business owners are now demanding a meeting with traffic agent supervisors, an investigation into the issuing of illegal parking tickets, and a "grace period" for community members. Bronx City Councilman Jimmy Vacca says he too has spoken out about these "abuses." He wants more traffic enforcement agents devoted to directing traffic instead of issuing tickets, as they do in Manhattan. Vacca tells the Daily News, "I've always questioned whether our priority in traffic enforcement is safety or revenue enhancement."

double parking is a fact of life in New York. There are more cars than spaces, and if you need to run into a building quickly, or unload a bunch of luggage or groceries, sometimes there's no way around it. i think a smart approach would be to go easy on people who double park where they're not causing much of an obstruction- quieter side streets, and wide, lesser-used boulevards. However, on busy, major avenues, i have no sympathy. Please ticket the shit out of these people and be as predator and unforgiving as possible.
fuck people who stand and double park. they write those tickets for a reason! take it easy on these fucknuts? they already do. If the traffic cops wanted to they could write a ticket for everyone and their mom. they probably write tickets for only 5% of the violations instead of the actual 100%. If you need to run to a building quickly you should get ticketed. if you need to unload groceries or luggageyou should get ticketed. You know why? cause this is NY and the great malthusian complexities of christians hating abortions means that there are a whole lot more assholes on the planet living in close proximity sharing the same space and breathing the same air. There is no grace period for anyone but the mega rich.
predatory? are you kidding me? you know the rules, you break them, you get ticketed. if you don't like the rules, change them.
I like how the cop twist ...
I have zero sympathy. Ticket them all. I wish the traffic cops would write far, far more tickets for law breakers. The streets would be safer and my taxes would be lower.
You can fight all parking tickets online at www.nyc.gov
Even if you have no evidence or reason they will plea you down, just for disputing. Worth a shot! I just got a $60 ticket dismissed.

Last year, at my Uncle's funereal, this numbnuts metermaid began ticketing the entire funeral procession - hearse included!!! I swear I don't think the guy knew what a hearse was.
So hearses are exempt?
I understand using the stock photo, but how many tells are there that it was definitely not taken in the Bronx?
A couple of months ago I read about a metermaid ticketing a car involved in an accident... this was in London though... there were a couple of other ridiculous ones, but I don't remember...
I'm also for ticketing the hell out of all law-breakers...
That was definitely not taken in the Bronx.

Except to park a few blocks away and walk. Or don't even use the car to begin with.
As for the picture, sure it's not taken in the Bronx. It's not even a traffic agent. Let the cry for a photo editor begin!
You left a word out of your sentence, Margaret. They wait for you to park what? ILLEGALLY. They wait for you to BREAK THE LAW and then they enforce it. What assholes. Drivers in this city have such a sense of entitlement.
it never ceases to amaze how so many nyers who purport to be free thinking and for indvidual rights are so quick to submit to overbearing goverment and laws.
Summons for alternate side parking and double parking having everything to do with fscking people to make revenue for the city. They make trying to live a normal life in the city miserable.
All the commenters who support the ticketing - I imagine don't have cars - one day when you grow up and need more than your bike, you'll understand.
I have a car in the city, and I hate people that double park. There's nothing more infuriating then rushing to your car and realizing that you're pinned in cause some knucklehead has double parked and now you can't get out.
Also when you're driving down a tight street and all traffic is diverted into one lane because some selfish jerk is double parked. All those people are now inconvenianced cause of one persons selfishness. How hard is it to park at a hydrant. If you're going to be in the car anyway, no one is going to bother you.

Yeah, because it has nothing to do about cleaning the streets or keeping the lanes clear so traffic can flow (bikes and cars).
