McCain Will Now Attend Debate

2008_09_mccaindeb2.jpgPerhaps faced with the prospect of a solo Barack Obama town hall meeting, John McCain has announced that he will attend the first presidential debate at Ole Miss tonight. A statement said McCain is "optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations, including Representative [Roy ]Blunt as a designated negotiator for House Republicans." Remember, McCain previously said he would not debate unless there was a bailout plan. While McCain's statement was critical of Obama, Senate Democrats slammed McCain for injecting presidential politics into bailout discussions and not stating a position. It starts at 9 p.m., and you can find debate watching parties via McCain's website and Obama's website.

The McCain Campaign is looking like a poorly scripted WWE character. This guy is shrinking before our very eyes; Sarah Palin is an embarassment they have to hide; Carly Fiorina pricked his post-convention bubble with her astutely frank assessment of their capabilities; the Wall Street bailout impasse has exposed the weakest intellect on Earth when it comes to money. This debate should basically be Obama sealing this reeking political corpse in concrete. Goodbye, McCain-Palin.

Don't underestimate McCain. I'm serious. He's technically a much better debater than Obama, despite the fact that he is wrong on virtually every issue. He has also managed to come into the debate now with zero expectations due to his fake pull-out. They're claiming that he only prepped once for 3 hours last night. It's a tactical ploy, but it is effective in setting low expectations.

I think many people are confusing Obama's ability as a public speaker with debate skills. I think the worst thing we can do as Obama supporters is to underestimate McCain, who has shown time and again that he can bounce back from oblivion.

On the other hand, Obama has every possible advantage when it comes to policy, leadership, and the direction of the country. So who knows.

It's going to be a really interesting night.

The PC police are really out in full force today aren't they Ides? Think we all know this debate could get pretty ugly for McCain no matter where you stand - but c'mon, the best show is going to be Palin vs. Biden. I hope they ask her about her foreign experience w/ Russia again!

    Ides,

Have you ever heard Obama say "yo"? Or does this have something to do with your minority panic?

  • Dirk

Poor Ides. McCain/Palin have jumped the shark. What else can he do but rag on Obama?

I'm hoping McCain has an Admiral Stockdale moment. That would be priceless....

  • jibbly

Ides is so grasping at straws. We'll give him a pass since it's rainy and it's Friday and he probably just wants some hot coco with marshmallows.

Hell, I wish Bush had done nothing in the past 8 years. We'd be better off.

Ten bucks says McCain gets confused tonight and just replies to every question with his name, rank and serial number.

#13- If obama did that I'd still vote for him, and he would add a "YEAH BOYYYYY!". Get used to your new colored president

  • yakatori

    Ides of march,

It's funny how the only thing you have to offer here is negative comments about obama. You have yet to say anything positive about your boy McCain. My guess is because there is nothing. My guess is that you are just a cranky old racist who is desparate for attention.

  • ANGRYGOD11

McCain has lowered expectations so much, that it won't take much for him to come of this better than expected.

He only has to NOT self-destruct on stage to remain viable.

    STATESMAN? DEBATER? HUH?

    (Friday noon post-napper)

You thought Sarah Palin a joke?

    Get sane.

    The nuttier of this pair's

    McCain.

  • ides_of_march

Obama's opening statement - "Yo! where's my teleprompter and greek columns!"

'Hope' is an excuse for doing nothing.

  • soopaman

McCain will have 4 yrs to talk to the press.

    McCain: "What?"

There will be other names on the ballot when you go to vote in November.

But you wouldn't know that by watching or listening to the media. After all, this is America.
