McCain Will Now Attend Debate
Perhaps faced with the prospect of a solo Barack Obama town hall meeting, John McCain has announced that he will attend the first presidential debate at Ole Miss tonight. A statement said McCain is "optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations, including Representative [Roy ]Blunt as a designated negotiator for House Republicans." Remember, McCain previously said he would not debate unless there was a bailout plan. While McCain's statement was critical of Obama, Senate Democrats slammed McCain for injecting presidential politics into bailout discussions and not stating a position. It starts at 9 p.m., and you can find debate watching parties via McCain's website and Obama's website.
