Did Apple Buy the Bedford Ave Salvation Army?

phpG5ilLTPM.jpgOur sources are telling us that Apple has purchased the building that currently houses the Salvation Army located at 176 Bedford Avenue (on the corner of Bedford and North 7th) in Williamsburg.

Rumors have been floating around for a year as to where the company may set up shop in Brooklyn (with most guessing it would be Downtown), and more recently it's been rumored that it would be in the new Edge complex.

In the past there have been mumblings that the Salvation Army building would become a McDonald's...so if this goes through, consider it a good thing, Williamsburg.

That was the saddest, most picked-over Salvation Army ever.

It really is! And it's seriously disgusting in there. Since the bedbug epidemic I would never even think of stepping foot in that SV. It's one of the worst I've ever seen.

But I, too, will mourn the loss of one of the last oldies to go.

Wow... Williamsburg is REALLY over, now.

That was the saddest, most picked-over Salvation Army ever. I kind of loved a weird old holdout sitting on a multi-million dollar piece of land, though. If city-wide patterns hold, an Apple Store would quickly be followed by multiple Starfucks locations, a ton of banks, and lame-ass boutiques that each contain like five $700 sweaters.

Apparently some folks missed the snide reference to blind consumerism.

Some folks being #4 and #14.

Yeah apple and mcdonalds totally the same. Like all the animals that apple tortures to make computers. and how our country is so fat and disgusting since apple computers... yuck.

And once "Ex-manhattanites" give attention to different areas in brooklyn the rest will then become trendy like williamsburg. Enjoy the peace and quiet while you can cobalt.

The sidewalk there is too crowded as it is. I can imagine it getting even more annoying when that behemoth opens up.

Shouldn't there a soup kitchen instead? The economy is tanking-our president said so the other night!!!!!!

    @whitecastlerock-

"Consider it a good thing, Williamsburg."

Yeah, replacing a thrift store with an electronics boutique is a GREAT thing when the economy is entering a depression. Genius.

WHo can afford these computers these days?

  • slyseekr

This may officially mean the end of Williamsburg as we currently know it! It might also signal the development of SoHo East?

    H&M to follow.

Somehow I bet mac people think they are helping the community by bringing low-price 3g's to the "people"

    sanctimonious bastards!

I do all my thrifting on roosevelt island. However, i do still mourn the loss of a salvation army.

Subject aside -- i'm getting really sick about hearing about Williamsburg. Theres more to Brooklyn than just the areas that Ex-manhattanites have deemed trendy.

What's the difference between Apple, a company which sells products that people use on a day to day basis for both productivity and recreation, and McDonald's, a fast-food company whose food has be known to have detrimental effects on the human body?

  • nomnomnom

The best part about this is that there will now be a clean bathroom to use at that intersection!

  • chris lee

FINALLY an apple store in Williamsburg, I love fresh apples.

  • hitlerbaby

Apple store, McDonald's...what's the difference these days?
