I Am (Almost) Legend

File under: should have seen it coming? Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. is gearing up to create a prequel to I Am Legend. "The studio has set D.B. Weiss to write a script that is based on a detailed outline that was hatched over the past few months by Smith," and others, and the film will show a pre-apocalyptic New York City as the final days of humanity are counted down. Since the studio wanted Smith back to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, a prequel was the only solution, as (spoiler alert!) his character died at the end of the first film. Get ready for another Hollywood takeover of New York's streets and bridges, and likely a slew of sold-out nights at the IMAX.

It's a PREQUEL, Spiritof76. It doesn't matter if he died at the end of the first one. In terms you can understand, it's like how Star Wars came out first and then Revenge of the Sith came out later but actually took place before Star Wars. Incredible, huh?

What it really is is just another excuse for Hollywood to show the destruction of NYC.

I still don't buy the premise of a US Army colonel who is also a brilliant biologist living and working in a Washington Square brownstone.

I thought I am Legend was fantastic. They should just switch the story to the alternate ending, in which case they can make a sequel. Although I think a prequel would be more interesting.

Hey, you don't know that Neville died. It was a movie. In Hollywood, anything can happen. Maybe he just got thrown aside by the explosion.
