Yesterday, Presidential candidate John McCain's campaign angrily lashed out at the NY Times, calling the Old Gray Lady a "pro-Obama organization."
The Times had published an article about how McCain campaign manager Rick Davis "was paid more than $30,000 a month for five years as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations." Yesterday, campaign adviser Steve Schmidt said, "Whatever the New York Times once was, it is today not by any standard a journalistic organization...This is an organization that is completely, totally, 150 percent in the tank for the Democratic candidate, which is their prerogative to be... It is a pro-Obama organization that every day attacks the McCain campaign, attacks Sen. McCain, attacks Gov. Palin and excuses Sen. Obama.” Schmidt's suggestions for potential Obama stories fell flat, though.
Times executive editor Bill Keller said, "The New York Times is committed to covering the candidates fully, fairly and aggressively. It's our job to ask hard questions, fact-check their statements and their advertising, examine their programs, positions, biographies and advisers." Politico has an article on McCain's love-hate relationship. Former Times reporter Todd S. Purdum said, “I don’t think that kind of statement represents anything like John McCain’s true views about The New York Times, and I don’t think it represents Steve Schmidt’s real views, either. I think the McCain camp is frustrated with the current climate, and with the tough coverage of its sharp tactics, and is blaming the messenger – the oldest trick in the book.”
But speaking of the McCain-Palin campaign and the media: During VP candidate Sarah Palin's meeting with Afghan president Hamid Karzai, the media only got 29 seconds access, hearing only Palin and Karzai talk about Karzai's son's name. That came after the McCain-Palin camp was going to bar the media...only to let them in after protest.

The NY Times...they're Obama groupies.
Not since Will Duranty was shilling for Joe Stalin, has the Times been so far in the tank for a politician.

...and yet the Times wonders why its circulation continues to drop like a stone.

Actually, the NY Times has been demonstrated to go after BOTH candidates, despite the "bash the press" nonsense by Sen. McCain's campaign.
But why let reality interfere with an Old Meme...

I was watching CNN's McCain Revealed and it turns out that McCain actually was truly a maverick when he was younger, and it was only in these last 4 years when he turned his back on all his principles and sold out to the conservatives to get to the point where he is today. This man has given up everything he holds dear just for power. Citizen Kane still exists today, just look at McCain.

He promises to shake things up in War-shington. Where is this place? They hiding WMD's or something? We going to war with them too? Is it near Georgia?

... it sucks to hear the truth about your candidate, reporters totally suck when they do their job. I guess the only truth left is to watch republican political ads about obama teaching sex ed to elementary school students. I think he actually invited them to his madrassas and lead the classes himself.
good thing we have Fox news and every radio talk show to turn to for the real news.
yawn yawn yawn about the media being liberal. A good tactic, but come on now.

No, really? Get outta town! You don't say!
I bet someone's going to accuse Fox News of being biased towards Republican candidates.

CNN also tagged Sen. McCain on other issues too.
I suppose CNN is another "Obama Organization" too...

"Actually, the NY Times has been demonstrated to go after BOTH candidates,"
Yeah right, that's why they send 30 reporters to Alaska to investigate Palin's daughter and her fiance yet can barely stifle a yawn when it comes to Obama's ties to a domestic terrorist.

waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh...........
poor john mcCain.......poor Palin..........if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. the press still could exercise free speach last i checked. besides, this is NOT GOP territory - what the hell does he think the NY Times is - the "Podunk/Middle America/Christian Conservative Gazette"?

Ides of march,
perhaps they sent all those reporters there because no one had a heard of this woman before and so they wanted to find out everything about her in a short amount of time.
Why don't you take the tin foil off of your head and get a clue.

McCain and Palin are a bunch of crybabies.

The NY Times is a leftist rag. I can't wait till it folds.

I think the McCain campaign is just mad that people are calling them out for their misleading ads and accusations. The McCain campaign wants to be able to smear and not be called liars at the same time. Or anything bad brought back on them. Because NYTimes isn't the only people calling them out.
Like what's the difference between McCain trying to tie Obama to people in Frannie/Freddie, but when someone does reporting and says, btw so are people in your campaign, why are they considering biased? Or when almost all the cable network calls out the "children sex ed ad" a lie, do they start crying that they're being mistreated?
From what I heard, they're not saying that NYTimes is wrong or not based on facts, they're just saying things they don't like.

You can choose who extends that misinformation, you could also choose to live in denial.
Is intelligent design a cue for how far con you go with your theories on "reality"?
Republicans still thing the sacking of public money is perfectly OK and that any crisis is a plot!

McCain/Palin's antagonistic, dishonest media strategy is just a preview of its foreign policy. I hate all the "Bush III" rhetoric because I'd love to think McCain is still the John McCain I might have voted for eight years ago still exists. But the actions of his campaign speak so much louder than any words the man himself might offer.

I think it's the media's responsibility to objectively report what is true, not what is "balanced".
If the McCain campaign wants to play the game with 0% sportsmanship and with a team that's choke full of lobbyists, they shouldn't be surpised when reporters ask tough questions.
And they don't seem too concerned with any biases over at the NY Post.

So where does this "in the tank" metaphor come from? What is it supposed to mean? Are we going to have to hear the McCain camp repeat it 1000 times, now that they've finally stopped saying that Obama throws everything "under the bus"?

History will record the NYTimes' bias coverage of the 2008 election- as having put the first nail into the coffin lid of Newspaper Journalism in America.
McCain is going to win this election- and he is going to win big! (93% of Negros SAY thery're for Obama- and they probably are... but that 93%
will not actually get to a poll on November 4th,- and that will be that!)
America is not going to elect Obama. Now if the DNP had run General Colin Powell for President- that would have been quite a different story!!
Oh- Well...
