Maybe Obama could reach across the aisle and name John McCain his next SEC chief. We know he doesn't have a clue about big business and the economy so he couldn't be any worse than a Bush appointee.

The McCain campaign never "leak[ed] a story that a floor fight was a distinct possiblity." What happened was that the campaign put out Lieberman feelers, via surrogates like Peter King and Bill Kristol. I maintain that this was all for show. Some GOP delegates did not realize that the Lieberman overture was not serious, and they overreacted. Let's not forget the media's role here, either. They publicize a few emotional statements by one or two delegates, and never print corrections or retractions. Remember how the DNC was going to have a floor fight between Hillary and Obama supporters?

All of those "accounts" came from a few people inside the campaign, so there is no real credibility. I obviously don't think that Lieberman was ever a serious contender. It just doesn't make any sense, as the only major issue they agree on is Iraq.

Just like how he floated Lieberman as a possible VP pick By most accounts McCain really wanted Lieberman and backed off when he was told there would be a revolt on the floor of the convention.

This is just another one of McCain's fake "maverick"-isms. Just like how he floated Lieberman as a possible VP pick, he floats a Dem here, gets press for being a bipartisan maverick, but when the actual decision is made (which with luck will not happen), it would be a solid right winger. While the press has come around on many of McCain's tactics, it looks like they're still lapping this one up.
