Last Hours of the Old Yankee Stadium

To celebrate tomorrow's final game at Yankee Stadium, the team will allow fans to walk on the field before the game. The grass and infield will be off limits, but fans can stroll along the warning track, behind home plate and even on the remains of one fan who recently found a new home there. The stadium will have a huge police presence tomorrow to stop fans from pocketing handfuls of dirt that are expected to be auctioned off like many of the souvenirs from Shea that have already hit the market.

The pre-game ceremony will include appearances by 40 past Yankee greats including Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Rich "Goose" Gossage and Graig Nettles with Berra expected to throw out the first pitch. Owner George Steinbrenner is not expected to make it up from his home in Florida.

Let's hope the Yankees can find a way to leave The House That Ruth Built as winners and fight off being eliminated from the playoffs for one more game. Today they came through in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Orioles 1-0.

All these ceremonies. There's nothing to celebrate here...unless they decide to keep the old stadium.
