• Mets 7, Nationals 2: If Brian Schneider is hitting two home runs with Johan Santana on the mound, things feel as if they'll be all right. Santana, who has a 7-0 record with a 2.26 ERA over his past 14 starts, went seven innings of one-run ball, striking out eight and walking two. Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy had two hits apiece setting the table at the top of the lineup. The Mets ended up salvaging a split in the series, and their wild card lead is now are 1 1/2 games up on the Brewers, who blew a four run lead with two outs and no one on in the ninth.
• Yankees 9, White Sox 2: Bobby Abreu (two homers) and Mike Mussina (18th win) made their cases to be back in 2009. The impending free agents will need the Yankees to cooperate of course, but those two can't be blamed that much for the Yankees' demise this season. Abreu will have a tough time making a dent in a crowded outfield rotation, but anything is possible.
• Liberty 72, Sun 63: Shameka Christon scored 19 points as New York won the opener. The Sun couldn't get much going against the stifling defense. They only made 4-of-22 3-pointers. For those who don't know, these series are best-of-three.
