After her decision to use personal e-mail accounts, instead of official Alaska state e-mail for state business (perhaps to circumvent subpoenas!), has been widely publicized, of course computer hackers would break into one of Governor Sarah Palin's Yahoo mail accounts with screenshots posted on WikiLeaks (also on Gawker). And of course the McCain-Palin campaign issued a statement, calling the matter a "shocking invasion of the governor's privacy and a violation of law." The FBI and Secret Service are currently investigating. And, for what it's worth, when former governor Eliot Spitzer was investigated for his Troopergate scandal, his emails were targeted (and his personal ones were published!).

"McCain has admitted that he doesn't know how to use a computer and can't send e-mail - a deficiency that's drawn ridicule from rival Barack Obama."
This is the guy people want running America!?????
What was Palin password to begin with anyway?
The hacker got into the account by answering her security questions right.
In McCain's defense, his war injuries make it difficult to look normal just standing behind a podium, nevermind moving his arms and fingers to type.
Still unacceptable, no matter what the reason, though. Imagine FDR telling America he doesn't know how to turn on his radio. There are still a lot of governmental questions about the Internet to be settled over the next few years, and it's bad enough so many of our pols are ignorant to what's going on...we don't need to elevate another old internet-illiterate ignoramus to President.
Obama's biggest enemy might just be extremists like the fools who now have gone beyond lies and attacks, and have begun to break laws in an attempt to hurt this woman's career. This can't play well with the average American.
I can't wait to see this looser after the Secret Service catches up with him/her.
i love the internet
in other news the MI GOP machine doesn't want poor people to vote if you're in foreclosure.
uhm.... that should be ALLEGEDLY using "personal e-mail accounts for state business"
You're spreading lies. In fact, all the hacked emails seem to confirm this was in fact a personal account and not being used for state business.
Just sayin'.
I often wonder if Mayor Bloomberg and Daniel Doctoroff use Web mail to circumvent FOIL requests.
Only kids use Yahoo. I'm always surprised to see grown ass people log into their Yahoo accounts. Yahoo ain't nothing but spam. Even Hotmail is more professional, but Yahoo ain't shit. Gmail, AOL, MSN, all free but all better then spam magnet Yahoo. The new Yahoo interface looks to childish, they want to attract a young crowd. Yahoo always been for the young people.
@NYCSniper--Palin's use of personal email to conduct state business is fact. Check out this Anchorage Daily News article, which states, "Palin routinely uses a private Yahoo e-mail account to conduct state business. Others in the governor's office sometimes use personal e-mail accounts too."
At the end of the article, her press secretary says, "Open and transparent does not mean that you lose all common sense and conduct everything out in the open. I mean, obviously, you have to have people be able to think out loud, have discussions and debates, you know, and resolve things."
The screen-shots shown so far don't confirm the email was personal or private. Snippet from Wired:
The subject line of an e-mail from Randall Ruaro, her deputy chief of staff reads, "Draft letter to Governor Schwarzenegger." Another one from Ruaro says, "Please approve" and another one is about "Court of Appeals Nominations."
Palin's chief of staff, Michael Nizich, sent her an e-mail August 22 with the subject line, "Using Royalty Oil to Lower the Cost of Fuel for Alaskans." The subject line of another e-mail from Nizich reads "CONFIDENTIAL Ethics Matter."
I'm no McCain supporter, but given the state of our economy, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the continued rise of Islamic extremism, our tenuous alliance with Pakistan, a radical anti-Semite president in Iran, and our continued dependence on the Middle East for fossil fuels, the last thing I give two shits about is if our president knows how to log in to Gmail or check the box scores on espn.com.
4CHAN!!!!!!!!!!
gov.palin@yahoo.com? Seriously? How big of a head do you have to have to make your personal email account reflect your governmental office? I wonder if there's a gov.dubya@texasjackass.com.
Damnit! the texasjackass.com domain has been taken already.
wow, I love her press secretary's definition of "open and transparent".
4CHAN!!!!!!!!!!
/b/ got a hold of Bristol Palin's email and cell phone number. Poor girl. I wouldn't wish that on my own worst enemy.
@Jen --- So you're backing up your allegations by citing a website with unlisted sources?
Did she or didn't she? I'm not one to say, but would you really risk publishing libelous accusations? Would you be prepared if you were taken to court? Be careful!
Is there anything these modern Republicans do that doesn't stink of corruption, secrecy and profiteering?
What happened to free markets and small government? That stuff wasn't so bad. Why did they start moving into avoiding public transparency, trying to fire their sisters ex-husband, siding with people who write signs that begin with "Jesus hates...", starting wars and making a fortune from it all?
And why are about half of Americans so dumb they will actually vote for them? Is the smart, nicely spoken, fair-skinned black man really so scary? This one doesn't even have a gun. C'mon America! What happened to our values?
let's do it for bernie mac, america.
Spitzer's emails were targeted by the PROSECUTOR. That's not even close to the same thing as what happened here. I hope the prick that did this gets caught and sent to prison.
To clarify: I'm an Obama supporter, but this is shady and we don't need it.
@JMH--you're absolutely right, Spitzer's emails were released during the course of an investigation. I was trying to raise the point that Palin and her staff may be trying to use personal email to circumvent subpoenas... during the course of a potential investigation.
@NYCSniper-
"Did she or didn't she?"
She did. There are tens of newspaper articles out there quoting hacked screenshots and subject headings indicating Palin used her Yahoo account for government business.
"I'm not one to say, but would you really risk publishing libelous accusations? Would you be prepared if you were taken to court? Be careful!"
LOL! You're funny. Please do some research on libel before you start libeling others with accusations of libel. Be careful!
NYCSniper - It's not libel to repeat someone else's accusations, and the bar is a lot higher for libelous political speech.
If you're so concerned about libel, shouldn't you be running around the internet warning all the "Obama = muslim" posters?
Oh, you're not? Maybe that's because you're one of them:
"the McCain-Palin campaign issued a statement, calling the matter a "shocking invasion of the governor's privacy and a violation of law."
Oh... I see. It's OK for the republican administration to hack into OUR e-mail whenever they want to... but HER e-mails are somehow sacred.
Typical republican slime.
Obama in his own book states he was raised in a muslim school. He obviously is not a Muslim now, yet his website claims he was never a muslim. Nice try "gotcha".
Obama has never said that he considered himself of the muslim faith, and you know this, which is why you always mention the school and Obama's father in your despicable comments.
gov.palin@yahoo.com, password: trigsmom
i just did it for the lulz.
unfortunately they're gonna catch him

To all of the white Obama supporters, here are a couple of quotes straight from his book Dreams of My Father.
'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'
You still want to vote for someone that hates you?
And for the record, I never vote Republican or Democrat. I have principles.
Oh please #31, we know how the 2 party system works and we know that one of them will win not matter what (not a 3rd party).
People want change, Obama is not perfect but he is the lesser of two evils.
It's either him or looney tunes Mc Quack.
Obama had identity issues when he was a teenager? Stop the presses!
Come on 32, that kind of mentality is what's killing this nation. Do you only want two choices for dinner or two choices for modes of transportation or two choices for careers or two choices of anything else? Then why do you only want two choices for the most important office in the nation?
And 33, you know that wasn't the point, but you're doing the exact same thing the Republicans did when Obama made the lipstick comment. If Obama really only had those issues as a teenager, don't you think he would have stuck up for his own mother, as an adult, to his obviously racist preacher?
Listen, I grew up going to a large evangelical church. Some things that were said in church I agreed with, some I didn't. But I made up my own mind and didn't try to pick a fight with the preacher anytime I didn't agree.
Well #35, I grew up in a Southern Baptist church and anytime I heard the n-word, I challenged the person who said it - clergy included. Guess some of us have principles and will stand up for them, and others will claim to have those same principles but won't risk 'rocking the boat' to do what's right.
No you didn't
