Maybe the Most Amazing Mayoral Campaign Ad EVER!

Port Authority commissioner Bruce Blakeman wants to be mayor in 2009. We know this because we've read the news stories and we know this because his talking dog tells us.

Seriously--check out his new video (above) that's on air, according to the Observer's Azi Paybarah. He writes, "It's been causing a stir among political operatives who have already seen it on the air. Blakeman's campaign was kind enough to send me a copy of it upon first request." It's like a reverse UBU!

Blakeman, a lawyer who is also known these days as the separated husband of Nancy Shevell who is dating Paul McCartney, is running for the Republican spot on the ballot. And that would pit him against John Catsimatidis, of the Gristede's fortune. All we can really say is watch your ass, Beverly Hills Chihuahua!

That's gold. And I love how he thinks one of his best qualifications for Mayor is not being able to hold down a job. Also, Beverly Hills Chihuahua looks AWESOME.

Note to McCain: Bruce Blakeman for VP. He's got the experience!

Another talking dog from the Summer of Sam. (John Turturro's voice!)

I was surprised to see that this ad really exists. I kinda thought I had hallucinated it.

I saw it late at night, a little drunk, and woke up in the morning thinking the booze had given me crazy dreams about talking chihuahuas and busboys. Good to know that it was just the mayoral race heating up.

Jen, you misspelled "EVAR!"

That WAS awesome...

He's got my vote.

he'll probably win

growing up 'on the border of queens' sounds suspiciously like growing up in long island.

He had me at busboy.

Bruce Blakeman is from Valley Stream, Long Island. That's where he grew up and where is still technically practices law with his dad. His father is a very crooked Nassau County attorney named Robert Blakeman and his brother, Bradley, works for The Bush White House and was a regular on Fox News touting Bush's greatness for many years. I believe Brad was, at one point, Bush's appointment secretary. Their only connection to NYC is that their cousin was an EMT on Long Island on 9/11 and came to help and was killed in the WTC. Bruce obviously got the job as Port Authority Commissioner through his brother's connections to Bush (the same administration who appointed Michael Brown to head FEMA.)

My family has known these people (supposed 'old family friends') for many years, and I cannot tell you how frightening the idea of this crook as Mayor is to me.

Unfortunately, John Catsimatidis isn't much better. Another sleazebag I have unfortunately had personal dealings with.

Time for me to work on helping to overturn term limits in NYC so Bloomberg can remain our Mayor.

An article from The Village Voice from his failed campaign for State Comptroller.

Mob ties? How am I NOT surprised.

And he's still making political contributions from his Valley Stream business address as of 2007 (Law Firm of Robert Blakeman and Associates)

Bruce was my roommate in law school. Although we had a falling out and had (have) extremely different political views, he was passionate about politics early on. There is no doubt that he is in the political game to make a difference.

I saw the nasty remarks about his dad on this blog, and can only say that he was very generous to me throughout law school with his time. He helped us study, and was enthusiastic and patient. I find the comments about corruption very hard to believe.

Rabid, right wing republican-yes. Crook-no way.
