Harvest in the Square, Union Square's yearly food and wine fundraiser to benefit the Union Square Partnership's "ongoing beautification efforts" to the park, is self-described as "Great Food. Great Fun. Great Fundraiser. Everyone Leaves Feeling Great." That might not be the case tonight, though, when a mob of rabble rousers converge to jeer at VIPs as they arrive at the "pricey party tent." The protesters' beef, as you'll recall, is with the partnership's controversial attempt to turn the park's 78-year-old Pavilion into a year-round restaurant. Last we checked, a judge agreed with the restaurant opponents. But that doesn't mean they still can't get together and taunt the swells. To join them, assemble at the George Washington statue at 6 p.m. and "bring your own pots & pans and something to bang with!" Organizers promise to provide chef's hats. Details.

As I'm going to this event, I'll gladly join in any Patrick-Pogan-style antics if one of these fools gets between my food and me. What the hell is the point of protesting a charity food event??? Dumbasses.
I protest therefore I am...
Glad to see commenters once again reducing complex land-use issues (like the privatization of public park space) into a simple back-and-forth between reasonable people and trendy radicals.
Very constuctive...
This wouldn't be the first time I saw a protester in Union Square "having a tocque".
I wish the protesters would have handed out fliers or something. We were inside the event, could see them in chef hats (totally cool!), but no one inside had any idea what the point was. We asked about 10 of the workers as an informal poll, and no one knew why they were outside banging on pots and pans. The police seemed relatively calm, maybe they've been warned....
Danny Meyers can also buy off the protesters
he is surely in with the Bloomberg administration.
Too bad we don't have any investigative reporters on city matters anymore looking into this guy taking
over city parks with his crap.
Why did we not even get a minority to be asked to
open a restaurant in such a lively area?
Why not totally achohol free or vegetarian or???
Does he not make enough bucks in our area plus
the stink shake shack in Mad. Sq. park nice to
have friends in the parks bureau,I guess.
I assume they'll also be protesting in front of Tavern on the Green? And Shake Shack?
Hey protesting retards...
There has always been a restaurant behind the pavilion at union square. Last night was a fund raiser for the park its self, not a perspective new restaurant. So what if its a new restaurant? They arent impeding you from playing hackie sack or selling your crappy art or whatever the hell you hippies do, on the lawn now are they? Sit down and have a hamburger and shut up
