Starting next week artist Tadashi Kawamata will make the above rendering a reality in Madison Square Park. His "tree huts" represent his "interest in the architecture of shelter and of the insertion of private objects into public spaces as a method of renegotiating the meaning of both." But how long do you think it will take until someone tries to climb into or inhabit one? Stay tuned for more images as the huts are built next week. [via NY Times]

Didn't some kid get a ticket for picking a leaf off a city tree recently?
"Art is what you can get away with." - Andy Warhol
Can't find enough artists who really need this commission and ensuing publicity in/from Nu York???
I feel So sorrrry for the squirrels that will
move in then when this "show" is over become
like most of us ,the evicted residents........Boooo!
Just in time for the Depression: arty Bushievilles.
MY rent was just increased by 8%....with the gas prices...stock market...economy...etc etc...I am still expected to come up with 8% more a month to just live here. YET....some idiot gets money handed to them to build tree houses because he is an 'artist'?????? It's a fucking TREE HOUSE!!!!!!! Where is the art?????????
I think I may just go to the park...take a shit on one of these so called huts....and label it art! Maybe I can get some money then too so I can pay the extra rent I will now be charged!!!!
On a side note.....The waterfalls were such a huge success I can see why they will be damaging yet more trees for an art project.
...insertion of private objects into public spaces as a method of renegotiating the meaning of both.
typical art school bullshit; meaningless nonsense to fiat a false sense of entitlement and justification...
they don't look like they'd be big enough to live in! but yes, they will probably be big enough for you to take a shit on.
agree about the art school bullshit
