Last Night's Action: Into Second

  • Washington 1 Mets 0: It wasn’t the bullpen that let New York down on Tuesday, it was their offense. Odalis Perez, who came into the game with a 4.48 ERA, shut the Mets down into the eighth inning. Perez allowed only four hits and didn’t allow a walk. Mike Pelfrey was almost as good, allowing only one run over seven innings.

The only run of the game scored thanks to a pair of doubles with two outs in the fifth. Odalis Perez got the first one, a line drive to left that Fernando Tatis dove for, but couldn’t catch. Tatis was hurt on the play and had to leave the game. He has a separated shoulder and will probably miss the rest of the year. After a walk, Cristian Guzman doubled in the only run of the game.

In a perfect capper to a rotten night, the Phillies rallied from a 7-4 deficit against Atlanta and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to move into first place by a ½ game.

  • Chicago 6 Yankees 2; It probably should have been ruled an error, but Derek Jeter was credited with a single in the first inning that gave him the most hits of any player ever at Yankee Stadium. Considering all the players who have worn Yankee pinstripes, it is a noteworthy accomplishment for Jeter and he accepted it with his typical humility. As for the game, Andy Pettitte continued his rough second half and the Yankees wasted several opportunities to score. There are now five games left at Yankee Stadium and the Yankees’ tragic number stands at 3.

I for one am very concerned about this topic. I am not sure if I can go to work and live comfortably knowing that this kind of thing goes on day after day and affects the outcome of so many lives on our planet with indescribable marks left throughout our community that harbor poor safety records should be choose to leave our broken system in the governments hands at a cost of losing what we have worked for and what we will leave future generations run on sentence.

Time for the Mets to ask for a federal bail out.

Deja Vu, this time without Willie.
