READING: Every girl's nerd-crush (admit it), Chuck Klosterman (pictured), has stepped away from his cultural commentary generator and taken on fiction. He'll be at B&N tonight with his latest book, and first novel, "Downtown Owl."
7 p.m. // Barnes & Noble [33 E 17th St] // Free
DISCUSSION: Galapagos, in its brand spanking new DUMBO space, is hosting a Field Panel Discussion tonight. They ponder the starving artist, and ask, "Why do artists often think that you are a sell out if you make money from your art? The non-profit model that most artists use may not be the best model for your work, yet we gravitate to it like lemmings? What about being for-profit or for-benefit?" Join in on the fun, and discuss the dysfunctional psychology of the non-profit model. Moderated by Sara Juli, Performance Artist/Director of Development at Dance Theater Workshop. Plenty of panelists and a reception are also promised.
7 p.m. // Galapagos Art Space [16 Main St, DUMBO] // Free
THEATER: In town after a smash sold-out run at London's Royal Court Theatre, the Broadway production of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull begins previews tonight. The impressive cast includes such notables as Mackenzie Crook (who was brilliant as Gareth in the original BBC production of The Office), Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient) and Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead). Reviewing the London premiere, the Times's Ben Brantley deemed it "rapturous," elaborating that he's "never seen an entire cast walk so gracefully through the slippery ground of contradictions that is Chekhov — between comedy and tragedy, the everyday and the eternal, the hopelessness of human solitude and of being oppressively linked to others." – John Del Signore
8 p.m. // Walter Kerr Theatre [219 West 48th Street] // Tickets
MUSIC: Today's interviewee, Sam Amidon, is playing a show with both Kria Brekkan and Olof Arnalds. He tells us, "these two first names correspond to two incredible Icelandic singers who both used to work with the band Mum. Kria Brekkan is mysterious and amazing and Olof has such a beautiful voice." Sam starts the night off, so get there on time! The venue is also pretty amazing.
