  • Nationals 7, Mets 2: Pedro Martinez didn't give the bullpen a chance to blow this one. He labored through six innings, throwing 108 pitches in six innings. He walked four and allowed four earned runs. His ERA on the season: a robust 5.47. Long Beach native John Lannan held the Mets to one hit through seven innings. The Mets, whose tenuous lead is now a half-game, have Mike Pelfrey and then Brandon Knight set to start the remaining two games of the series. Things are going to be more exciting than anyone wanted. They still have the advantage, but it's getting slighter by the day.
  • Yankees 4, White Sox 2: Alfredo Aceves pitched well, Phil Coke got the win in relief and the Yankees moved a day closer to the end. Mariano Rivera moved in to second-place on the all-time save list for those scoring at home. Only six more games at Yankee Stadium.

The September belly-flop, a new fall tradition perhaps?

Willie would know what do now, he has the experience,

Bring back Art Howe-the Mets would have been out of it mid-July...

Aceves+Coke=1% of the salary of any veteran Yankee.
Cashman take note: your $250 million payroll has us in 4th place.
