Mother, Son Found Dead in Union Square Apartment

2008_09_usqm.jpgA 72-year-old woman and her 53-year-old son were found dead in their Union Square apartment on East 17th Street yesterday. They were both shot in the head and a .22-caliber revolver was recovered from the scene; WNBC reports that sources believe it may have been a murder-suicide. The Sun spoke to neighbors who say that Arlene Coffey, who supplied "antique clothing to [movie] studio wardrobe departments," had become ill in recent years. They say her son "lived with her and tended to her health."
