Jeter has given 100% to the Yankees in every game he has played, and is one of the best all-around players in the game. Enough of this "good old days were better" nonsense. Gehrig is dead. If Gehrig was alive today he would have shredded the lousy pitching of this era. Today the ball is far livelier and the parks are significantly smaller. To compare these players is a mistake. They played in different era and Gehrig's career was cut short by a fatal illness... The Jet offense is still putrid. Run,run, pass, punt or pass, pass, run then punt. Fire Mangini already-it is like the Bruce Coslet era all over again...

His stats do not match those of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMag, Mantle, but that's because has hit second in the order most of his career. Moreover, Gehrig hit in an era of a very 'live' ball and many CLUB batting averages exceeded .300. If he played, say, in the modern era, his numbers would be somwhat lowered, but still among the very best. www.forgotten-ny.com
