- From the Gothamist Newsmap: A stabbing on 5th St & 7th Ave in Brooklyn, possible jumper at Fresh Pond & Myrtle in Queens, and a brush fire in the Bronx.
- Shea's homerun apple is...safe! The NY Post reports that it's heading to Citi Field.
- Too easy: NJ cop fired for stealing breakfast sandwiches from Quick Check.
- Is the rent upstate that cheap that it's actually worth commuting for five hours a day and spending $554/month to do so?
- Will 30 Rock try to have a huge guest star on every episode this year? Now Steve Martin's on board.
- Disturbing: Park Slope kid spotted playing with a "toy" in the neighborhood's Babeland sex toy shop.
- At the Brooklyn Book Fest on Sunday Thurston Moore said that a long-overdue DVD version of "1991: The Year That Punk Broke" would have 90 minutes of "amazing" additional footage—if only Courtney Love would step aside!
- And sad news from overseas: Pink Floyd founding member and keyboardist Richard Wright has died after a "short struggle with cancer," he was 65.

Yes, the "rent is that cheap upstate" when you live with your parents.(Doesn't anybody read the original articles they link to?)
And that isn't really THAT cheap for rent...I pay less (but live in a shithole with four roommates), and have even paid $375 for a small room a few years ago. As long as you're willing to ignore your standards, it's doable.
And I hate listening to people whine about the commute when they have a nice, fat bank account. Suck it, children!
Live with your parents and save enough money to get a place of your own or live in a 4x4 box with roommates and never get enough money to buy an place of your own? Up to the person.
"Musico loves living in Wallkill because of its serenity, and staying at his parents' home has helped him save money, too."
He looks and talks like he would live with his parents.
$524 a month to commute. In two months with the money he could save, he could buy a really nice bicycle and just think of all the money he would save.
Talk about shooting for the stars, he said he would love to rent in Jersey City. "That would be a nice little gift for myself."
Aren't there McDonalds or Kmart in Wallkill where the commute wouldn't be as long?
Courtney Love seriously needs to talk to the Hendrix family and set up a smooth license-in-exchange-for-fat royalty checks system.
The plastic surgeries and coke habit gets mighty expensive, Courtney, take the licensing offers and give us what we want!
last year or so there was a story of a girl who commutes from albany everyday...makes this kid's new paltz-area commute look pleasant.
i once worked with a kid who commuted to midtown from a town 30 minutes past philly. and by past i mean further away from ny.

I know someone who commutes from Philly to White Plains, NY by car five days a week!!
The two mentioned above are really a sad testimony of why this country is going to shit and gas prices are as high as they are. Philly to White Plains in a car that gets 20 to 25 miles to the gallon has to be costing the fool about $60 a day in gas, plus tolls.
Plus it has to be at least a two hour trip one way. DUH?
The news of Rick Wright's death has me devastated beyond belief. I've been a Floyd dork all my life and each member holds such a special place in my heart. Enh. I know that to many people this news is nothing profound, but to legions of Floyd fans, the loss of such a sweet, understated gentleman is a knife to the heart. RIP Rick. Your mark on music will live on beyond your years.
