Emilydickinson Yes, they're both flawed, but bad execution is different from bad intention—with good intention, you can work to improve execution. All the issues you raise are important to me and to every democrat I know. I'm sure you know very well that politics is messy, and legislation that starts out one way gets pushed and pulled and mutated by the time it comes out. If you really think your ideal political party wouldn't have the same problems in execution, I think you don't understand the nature of a democracy composed of different people. @11 Since the 1980's both political parties have created policies that have had a negative impact on everyone but the extremely wealthy. NYC has gotten increasingly harder for everyone but the super rich to survive in, and standards of living have declined quite a bit. Cops, teachers and fireman can barely afford to teach and live the five boroughs. Vast frauds have occurred under both parties. Both parties are completely beholden to big business and the financial markets, and have very similar policies that let corporations do whatever they feel is necessary to make a buck. Lehman collapse in 3-2-1... I think both McCain and Obama will continue with similar policies that benefit corporations at the expense of average people. If Al Gore could have done all those wonderful things you speculate why couldn't he challenge what was an obviously rigged election? I refuse to entertain the idea that the elections and candidates are honest, and that this isn't mainly about the media dog and pony show. Either candidate, we're on a slow skid to second world status.

How anyone could be so dumb as to think that Gore would have handled Iraq, Afghanistan, 9/11, global warming, tax cuts, the mortgage crisis, energy policy, Katrina, deregulation, etc. any differently than Bush? I think we should admit that the actual election is a complete fraud, and there's very little difference between McCain, Obama or anyone else for that matter, other than varying degrees of bible thumping and saber rattling. The whole 'election' process is just a giant media play. Honestly, if you step back from the election 'coverage' for a second and just look at what people on both sides are saying it's pretty clear concrete issues and practical approaches to problem solving are non existent from both candidates. The election coverage is a step up from Perez Hilton at this point, but in some ways it's worse because journalists should really put the screws to these jokers. But they don't, and they won't and these shenanigans will continue.
