Morton Sobell Admits to Being a Spy

0809sobell.jpgMorton Sobell, who in the '50s was convicted along with Julius and Ethel Rosenberg on espionage charges, has finally admitted he was a Soviet spy. However the NY Times reports that the now 91-year-old, who spent 19 years behind bars and now lives in the Bronx, said "the sketches and other information on the bomb that were passed along to Julius Rosenberg were of little value to the Soviets," in fact, he called it "junk." When the paper asked him if he was a spy, he declared, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, call it that. I never thought of it as that in those terms.” He also noted that "Ethel Rosenberg was aware of her husband’s espionage, but did not actively participate."

Turns out it did happen recently, at a much higher level, in Cheney's office:

...A former White House official who took top secret documents from U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's office and gave them to opposition figures in the Philippines was sentenced on Wednesday to 10 years in prison.

Annie Liebowitz wasn't involved, no, the photographer was Eric Draper, the White House photographer. Oh, and IIRC, Leandro Aragoncillo actually did attend the RNC.

I knew they'd turn-up a terrorist on 9/11. Good work! Though, at 91, I wouldn't be surprised if he puts his virginity up for sale on E-Bay next.

I am shocked, shocked! Shocked, I tell you. Did I say I was shocked?

On the plus side, maybe, just maybe, the Rosenberg kids will finally stop proclaiming their parent's innocence; something that they've been doing in spite of the Russians opening their archives and saying, "Yup, they were spies."

If the Rosenbergs happened today Annie Liebowitz would photograph them for the cover of Vanity Fair and they would be honored guests at the Democratic Convention.

Maybe he fingered Rosenbergs & got off easy?

  • Polemicist

    Why wasn't he executed?
