- Mets 13, Nationals 10: After a game like this, the Mets can sit back and laugh. But during the contest, they could be forgiven for missing the humor. David Wright's two-run homer was one of his four hits and helped the Mets retake the lead after they blew a six-run advantage. Joe Smith got the win in relief for the second night in a row. Mike Pelfrey lasted five innings but allowed five runs and, in the discouraging department, did not strike out a batter. Aaron Heilman and Brian Stokes also struggled, but Luis Ayala was able to pitch an uneventful ninth. The Mets now lead the National League East by 3 1/2 games after Philadelphia lost to Florida.
- Angels 4, Yankees 2: One team celebrated a playoff berth after this game. Two guesses as to which one it was. Andy Pettitte turned forth another lackluster outing. This season can't end soon enough. Fortunately for the Yankees, it won't be long now.

Go Yankees! The best 4th place team in baseball!
This season can't end soon enough
Oh, for the yankees, it's been over for a while now.
honestly, from the petulent scion who owns the team to the GM who fiddles while rome burns, the nice guy manager who finishes last and the overpaid, underperforming players, not to mention the fascist stadium security and lazy, incompetent concession stand workers, this team disgusts me from the top to the bottom. The ONLY thing worth rooting for on this team is the name of the team itself. it's been like watching the statue of liberty rust, crack, and flake apart into pieces all over the course of 162 days.
some of the players are alright guys, sure, but when a team is this bafflingly, persistently, and embarrassingly bad, it's tough to feel warm and fuzzy for even you jobas or hidekis.
