City Remembers September 11 Seven Years Later

Earlier today, relatives and friends of victims and city, state and federal officials gathered at Zuccotti Park to commemorate the events of September 11. Mayor Bloomberg said, "Today marks the seventh anniversary of the day our world was broken...a day that began like any other and ended as none ever has." (Video below.)

This year is the final year for families to make the pilgrimage down to the "pit" Ground Zero, because of construction plans. One man who escaped the south tower told the Daily News, "I wouldn't know where else to go," and a woman told CityRoom that since none of her son's remains were recovered, the pit is "where he is buried as far as we are concerned."

Here is a list of the 2,751 names (PDF). The World Trade Center Health Registry estimates that 70,000 people have post-traumatic stress disorder due to the attacks.

secret service complete w/ guards (snipers) on the roof are rolling in now.

"Parachuters descend from the sky, with American flags."

i saw these guys during a meeting. i'm glad someone got a picture.

Man, it feels so far away but whenever it gets to this day I remember my boss who died in 9/11 and 4 of my coworkers. Even though I was an intern and did not know them very long it's still very sad. Sometimes I think about the small things that's why I also mourn the loss of my gym clothes that I lost in 9/11. I think about them sometimes. One day I'm wearing them for spin class at NYSC and the next they are in the rubble of the biggest tragedy to hit US Soil ever. They were of that futuristic micromesh breathable material too. Goddamn You Taliban and George Bush.
