Mayor Bloomberg continued to pay lip service to the term limits debate yesterday, saying that he would "think long and hard" about a bill that would extend term limits from two to three. He also said that he would veto a bill to end term limits, a curious declaration since there has been very little serious speculation that such a bill to do away with them altogether is forthcoming. Today's NY Times says that attempts to reverse term limits are a nationwide trend, though most places "are trying to do so via the ballot box." They also note that some of these referendums only deal with future officeholders, not simply a means to keep the current ruling class in power longer.

What Bloomberg should be doing with his remaining time as mayor is laying down the blueprint for operating the city for the future mayors. That and planning what he wants to do in retirement.
shameless, deranged narcissism. we should sell him off to the middle east along with the astroland rides.
bloomberg will extend the limits to keep his friend Simcha Felder in the council another 4 years. more slush fund, more of them voting raises for themselves. Nothing gets done in the council. worst city council in NYC history. I think they should get rid of the city council.
The only thing this guy should be "mulling" this Autumn is apple cider.
What's the matter with you people?! Our city is heading into perilous economic times, and we will desperately need a skilled businessman like Bloomberg to keep our city from decaying into a mess of low employment, depressed real estate, and terrorists and muggers run amok. Bloomberg 4EVAH!
No more billionaires in public office.
I hope Bloomberg stays longer! Who the heck can handle the city besides him at this point? One thing he should do better is stomping out corruption in cushy govt position like chief building safety inspector.
No more billionaires in public office
Are you kidding me? He doesn't give a crap about special interest because he doesn't need their stinking money.
no I'm not kidding.
NO MORE billionaires in office. he doesn't have special interests, it's all his rich friends who's special. there's still corruption, only now it's not the little guy taking quarters.
People are mobilizing against a blatant attempt by the City Council to deny them the right to uphold the term limits they voted into law. Join the grassroots campaign at

Yay for term limits. People are all too quick to rip up the state or the federal constitution when they get a rock in their shoe.
I thought Bloomberg did a good job in many ways, but it definitely is time for someone different.
