One thing that would have stopped them was a secure cockpit area. How many plane skyjackings have there been since the secure cockpit was established? How many before? Pure and stupid on the part of those in charge of airline safety.

Spiritof76 is right--hard to say what would have stopped them. But I'll share this anecdote: My dad was on a United flight headed to SF on September 11 that morning. His plane was sitting on the tarmac at Logan because, by then, flight control was told what had happened. When he called me after getting back into the airport, he said he wasn't surprised it happened, he felt like Logan's security was mess.

BTW, [9] they didn't do a terrible job on 9/11. Nobody expected box cutters to lead to planes crashing into buildings. If a terrorist did that again after 9/11, then you can say security was incompetent in that regard, but as of now, that scheme will never work again. Which is not to say security is great, since we hear about fake bomb and weapons tests passing through security seemingly every other week.

At this rate, every town, village and two-bit burg in the country will have 9/11 memorials finished before NYC does.

The memorial should be broken down into small pieces and kept in/by the parking lots, break rooms, locker rooms, cafeterias and time clocks of the security employees at Logan Airport who did such a bad job 9/11/2001.
They earned it.

follow the twisting flight paths? Tacky who wants to do that. Its a memorial not a reenactment

This looks EXACTLY like Boston's Holocaust memorial. Do they order these from a IKEA catalog?

Wouldn't it be more appropriate that the memorial be dedicated tomorrow?

It took seven years to build that? I can see why it's taking so long for the Ground Zero projects to be built.

The real nice thing about this Boston memorial is that once you are done leaving your respects, you can head downstairs and pick up one of those sexy new iPods.

Yeah, what is the deal with NYC and the lack of any progress on the new WTC? Seven years and it seems like nothing has been done.
