Pencil This In

1097b_KimDeitch.jpgART: Tonight a retrospective of work by "Legendary Underground Cartoonist" and graphic novelist Kim Deitch opens at MoCCA. The exhibit will include "original comics pages and other work covering the artist's entire career to date, beginning with full-page comic strips drawn for the East Village Other in the sixties up to recent graphic novels including The Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Alias the Cat, Shadowland, and Deitch's Pictorama."

Opens today, runs through December 5th // MoCCA [594 Broadway, Ste 401] // $5 suggested donation

EVENT: Did you know that you can go to the Blue Water Grill's Jazz Room tonight for not only a performance by Chris Barron (lead singer of the Spin Doctors!) but also fora prix fixe meal that's decidedly more enticing than the live music. Nosh on some lobster bisque and soy lacquered Chilean sea bass while listening to "Two Princes" and "Jimmy Olsen's Blues."

5:30 to 9 p.m. // Blue Water Grill's Jazz Room [31 Union Square West] // $98

THEATER: The surviving productions from the Fringe Festival are still soldiering on through the weekend. Tonight you have your choice between two shows. One is johnpaulgeorgeringo, which won the Outstanding Solo Show Award for Dave Jay's lively homage to the Beatles. Then there's The Fabulous Kane Sisters in BOX OFFICE POISON, which reviewer Nancy Kim describes as a "campy, fast talking, pun-overloading, gender-bending, flesh-exposing mystery comedy." And Backstage swears that the drag burlesque made "everyone laugh until their sides hurt." – John Del Signore

8 p.m. // The SoHo Playhouse [15 Van Dam St] and The Barrow Street Theatre [27 Barrow Street] // $18

MUSIC: (Le) Poisson Rouge has completed their look and are celebrating with some great shows. Tonight head over there there for Deerhunter--not many bands are worthy of so much buzz, but this one has lived up to it. If you haven't checked out their live show, tonight is the night, and tickets are amazingly still on sale.

10 p.m. // (Le) Poisson Rouge [158 Bleecker St] // $15
