If you're a registered Democrat or Republican, you can head to your voting location to cast your vote in primary elections in your district. There are a number of hotly contested seats (here's a list of candidates PDF): Real World alum Kevin Powell is hoping to usurp longtime Representative Edolphus Towns in Brooklyn, City Council members Simcha Felder and Kendall Stewart are hoping for Kevin Parker's State Senate seat in Brooklyn, Daniel Squadron challenging State Senator Martin Connor in Manhattan and Paul Newell to looking to defeat Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, also in Manhattan.
One position that has interesting Republican and Democrat primaries is Vito Fossella's Congressional seat. Fossella, who decided not to seek re-election due to his DWI and then revelations he had a mistress and love child, is currently the only Republican in the city's Congressional delegation. While Staten Island seems like a Republican stronghold, the lack of support behind a single Republican candidate (the S.I. GOP's first choice died) suggest the Democrats have a chance at taking this seat. Of course, there are still issues among the Democrats.

The link above to the candidate listing was not working. Here is another two links:

And none of them support Creationism and banning books. We are so behind the times in New York City.
(the S.I. GOP's first choice died)
He wasn't exactly the first choice, evidenced by the fact that few people seem to remember his name now that he's gone.
Can any Manhattan Democrats reading this PLEASE vote out Shel Silver. The rest of the state would be very, very thankful.
