Clowns Take Over the Streets of Williamsburg

This weekend marked the beginning of the 3rd annual NY Clown Theatre Festival at the Brick Theater in Williamsburg. Festivities began with clowns taking to the streets with a subway parade. Clowns such as Lord Oxford and Graspy McTakeItAll led a crowd of about 100 strong onto a rush hour L Train where they sang along as a marching band played standards such as "Come On Eileen" and "Groove is in the Heart."

After marching down Bedford Ave. and over to the Brick, the clowns and their entourage participated in a series of pie fights: some just for kids, some for the scantily clad. During a Parents vs. Kids round, one eight-year-old refused his mother's invitation to join in, yelling, "Then who's gonna watch your credit cards and cell phone?" When adults play like kids again, someone has to pick up the slack.

The Festival has performances, workshops and lectures running throughout the month.

Clowns take over the streets.......when I first saw this headline, I thought they were referring to Bloomberg, and the City Council holding an outdoor meeting.

Brooklyn is like Manhattan's mildly retarded sister who gives all your friends handjobs.

Beckham and Posh named their child Brooklyn... need I say more?

Where's a drive-by shooting or runaway truck when you need 'em?

Clowns are creepy and nobody likes them.

Bring on the P_A_N_D_A_S

Good luck clowns.

just keeping lobbing them in...

If there were anyone deserving a beat down by the police it is these assholes.

clowns or more commonly known as hipsters have been living in williamsburg for years.

Hmm... Either the photographer didn't see any clowns or there weren't any there. Just putting on a $.25 red nose and walking in a clown parade is like putting some lipstick on your cheeks and expecting candy house to house on Halloween. OK... maybe there was one person in an actual clown get-up.

agreed with [12] -- not to be reflexively negative but these photos show remarkably uncreative & uninspired getups for "clown theatre." seems to be part of the ongoing trend of people trying to pass parties off as "statements" or art happenings. nothing wrong with parties, mind you.

They are all potential serial killers.
